Sydney singer-songwriter Hollie Col is kicking off 2022 with another delicious pop gem, ‘Seasick’ produced & co-written by Dylan Nash (Dean Lewis, Angus & Julia Stone), plus has announced details of her forthcoming EP Julia Stevens out April 15 via Believe.

The new single, which received a first play on triple j’s Home & Hosed, launches straight into a creamy guitar riff leading in to splashes of 70’s retro synths, paired with a tightly tucked drum pattern reminiscent of Haim. Hollie’sbrazen, unfiltered and all too relatable lyricism details the nauseating back and forth between lovers-to-be; the struggle of crushing on someone that you know is wrong for you, but you can’t seem to shake it.

Reflecting on the new single, Hollie says “I wrote Seasick about the nauseating waves of a ‘will they, won’t they?’ relationship. I think it’s so interesting (and almost comical) how often we lie to ourselves and other people about how we feel about our romantic interests, particularly if we think we should be passed it or it’s an endless back-and-forth kind of situation. This song is about that frustrating, yet exhilarating cycle of trying to convince ourselves we’re really over that person just to be sucker-punched by the reality that we are still very much in it.”

To coincide with the new single, Hollie has once again delivered another cinematic delight with the ‘Seasick’ clip, which makes up the 6th instalment of the ‘Julia Stevens Series’.

Hollie explains the clip, “The video, set 1970’s Australia, documents the separate lives of Hollie and Julia, shortly after they’ve returned from a wistful, dreamy road-trip. Hollie, an aspiring musician, is working hard to put on a small show at the local bar in town all the while trying to forget her short lived almost-love-affair with Julia. Julia, on the other hand, is struggling with her own turbulent and dare I say, toxic, relationship with girlfriend, Mary as she does her best to forget the bliss she felt while with Hollie. Will they bump into each other in town? Will Julia show up to Hollie’s show? You’ll have to watch to find out!”

‘Seasick’ is the third single from Hollie’s forthcoming EP Julia Stevens, which also includesForgot To Love You’ & ‘Reruns’.

Hollie explains the EP’s title and themes, “Julia Stevens is the personification of every individual experience I’ve had in love, tied together into one body of work and one passionate, unpredictable, sensational story.” This amalgamation of her experiences brings to life an EP that is truly authentic, with Hollie also being the creative driving force behind the visuals for the EP as writer & director.

“I wrote this EP over the course of three years, with each song time-capsuling a particular feeling from when I wrote it. When it came time to put these songs together for an EP, I realised they almost encompassed the timeline of an entire relationship. The simmering crush, the back-and-forth, the hopes (and doubts), the what-ifs, the passionate love, and the calamitous heartache. So, I wanted to amalgamate them into one single love story that detailed every experience I’ve ever had in love and the concept of Julia Stevens was born.”

The fictional series is episodic, teasing fans to one ‘part’ at a time, and slowly unravelling the thrilling and unexpected love story between Hollie and Julia Stevens. The first six parts of ‘The Julia Stevens Story’ are delivered in conjunction with the first three EP singles. Each single is accompanied by two parts, a music video and later, a standalone extended scene, to propel the narrative forward before the next single.

The Julia Stevens EP solidifies Hollie’s step into the sunshine, basking unapologetically in the honesty of her sexuality, and leaning into the vulnerability of bold and beautiful love. Hollie’s passion for, and commitment to, elevating LGBT stories is tireless and intrepid. ‘In everything I do, I want to champion self-expression and celebration. I want to give young people the representation I always craved’.

To celebrate the release of her new singles, Hollie is hitting the east coast for a run of shows in Brisbane, Melbourne & Sydney this February. For those fans that missed out on her sold-out She Knows Tour in 2020 due to COVID cancellation, this is the perfect opportunity to see all your favourite tracks as well as brand-new material performed live.
