The CMAA Academy of Country has announced today that a new program will replace the 2022 junior course slated for July.

The Academy team members are pleased there has been plenty of interest in a future junior course, but have had to make the difficult decision to cancel this year and, instead, replace it with a songwriting course.

Traditionally, Junior Academy is held in Tamworth in the week leading up to Hats Off in July, but due to the risk and logistical challenges of holding large residential courses with the uncertainty of COVID-19 restrictions, the Academy team will run Junior Song Camp from July 3-6.

“After many discussions with our team, and weighing up the risks and benefits, we feel that the best course of action is to postpone the 2022 junior Academy course,” director Lyn Bowtell said.

“We can’t wait to see everyone back in 2023 but, until then, we have plans for other opportunities for both our junior and senior students waiting to attend Academy courses that have fewer risks of being cancelled.”

The intensive residential Academy course went ahead under strict COVID restrictions in winter 2021, but was unable to run in its full capacity.

Artists aged under 18 years old join with the cream of Australian country music mentors in Tamworth each winter for a week and nine-time Golden Guitar winner Lyn Bowtell leads The Academy as director with three-time Golden Guitar winner and Bushwackers member Roger Corbett as general manager.
