TIMOTHY
AND THE APOCALYPSE

Have you always wanted to be a musician? When did you get the song writing bug?
I started playing guitar and saxophone when I was young and played in a bunch of bands in the nineties. During this time I discovered techno and started promoting raves and playing as a DJ. My partner Katie Little started a label One Of A Kind Recordings and wrote the dance hit ‘I Heat Up’ that was picked up and released on Fresh Records.
How would you describe your sound? Why do you think people resonate with your music?
I get asked that question a lot and it’s hard to describe, I write with emotion, not a style of music, some people call it Trip Hop and as I’ve always been a fan of Massive Attack, Sneaker Pimps, Nightmares On Wax I’m pretty happy with that analysis.
Which artist’s music and/or performance, past or present, inspires you today?
Back in the eighties I was a booking agent for Aussie bands The Falling Joys, The Hummingbirds and The Clouds I grew up in the live performance world. I also toured with Volition Records on the Techno Pop tour with Boxcar, Severed Heads. Bands like Unkle, The Stones Roses and The Prodigy inspired.
Your upcoming remixes for ‘The Mindful Cherub’ have are about to be released! Describe the working process and collaboration amongst the remixers and yourself.
Having worked with Floating Pyramids on my debut album ‘Future So Bright’ and the my follow up album ‘The Ethereal Event’ it was a no brainer to get Chris Hamer-Smith to remix “The Mindful Cherub” love the way Chris brings a Hip Hop style to my music.

How was it to hear ‘The Mindful Cherub’ reimagined by these amazing producers?
One of the most exciting things about collaborating with other artists and producers is to let them have complete control over the creative process and the results have been very inspiring so far.
Are there any similarities in production/composition style that you see between Timothy and the Apocalypse and 9 Theory?
I think Gabe and I are both producers with similar tastes and backgrounds. Gabe adds melodies and gorgeous evolving beats to my music. We have a few more collaborations coming out in the future.
Any tours or events coming up soon? What are you looking forward to, and what can the fans expect?
I’m working on a tour of the USA in August this year with a strong sensory audio visual experience.
How has COVID affected you to date? What have you introduced to balance the losses from missed events?
To be completely honest the whole pandemic has helped my creative process, making me focus on the music. Only thing I miss is international travel.
If you could perform with any music artist, Alive or Dead, who would you choose? And why?
Bez from the Happy Mondays for his energy and Johnny Marr for his insane

How has the electronic music landscape change since your start making downtempo in the 90s to today?
I remember the good old days when you pounded the streets with flyers and pole posters and gigged your arse off, now it’s all digital and online promotion.
Can you give us a rundown of the gear in your studio?
I produce all my music in Abelton Live using classic Gretsch and Fender guitars, analog synths and Teenage Engineering Gear.
What is the best thing about performing to a live audience? What’s been the career highlight so far?
Due to the pandemic we haven’t perform live yet. Best moments are when you hear from fans that love my music.

Timothy and the Apocalypse is excited to release The Mindful Cherub Remixes, teaming up with 9 Theory, Floating Pyramids and The Time Meddler interpolating Timothy’s growing canon of expansive indietronica.
Originally released on Future So Bright, the debut long player from Timothy and the Apocalypse. The Mindful Cherub, plays off conventional desires for HipHop Radio and commercial meditation with soothingly illusionary chimes and 60’s psyche escapism. Upon releasing Future So Bright, his critical update to downtempo electronica demanded the attention of playlist curators landing The Mindful Cherub on Spotify’s Just Chill and NightShift, setting him among contemporaries such as Peggy Gou and Oneohtrix Point Never.
Here within this selection of remixes, the core concept of mindfulness refreshes how you hear the original track. Leading with a remix by 9 Theory (has worked with Emancipator and Jason Mraz), the LA-based producer focuses on building tuned percussion from the available harmonic structures cultivating a calm introversion, whereas Floating Pyramids is grounded in an organic determination, allowing the haze of vocal samples to swirl past without interference. Time Meddler’s contribution is a clear and present cut, elevating the key identifiers of the original into a crystalline view.
Where the original track placed acid jazz alongside retro-futurism, these revisions integrate the space, textures and time for reflection on all things modern.
