“The song is a delicious mix of indie-pop, R&B with a dash of synth and, perhaps appropriately as the world emerges from lockdowns, lyrically explores the sensation of wanting to recapture the intense feelings and excitement when you met that special person for the very first time.”

Fresh off the back of her powerful return to the music scene and latest single “Meet U Again’’, New Zealand singer/songwriter RIIKI REID releases brand new track “The Dream State”.
“The Dream State” is an exploration of a night’s sleep. For RIIKI, that was waking up amid a thunderstorm and then drifting back off to dreamland; reality and the creativity of her imagination merging inside her mind.
Written and self-produced by RIIKI REID, the track compels you to reflect on the complexity of your mind when sleeping; that relatable experience where our dreams mirror our realities.

“Dreams and the brain are such an interesting thing to learn about, and it intrigues me how things can happen in the real world and that can send your brain to some weird places in your sleep. Sometimes our dreams might mean we’re feeling more stressed out than usual in our life” explains RIIKI REID.
For RIIKI, this song is a depiction of exactly that, “I wrote this song after being woken up by thunder at 2am. I was in a deep sleep, but the sound sprung me awake and startled me to my core. Because I drifted off again quickly; my mind convinced myself in my dreams that the sound was a spaceship that had landed across from my house. I felt like there was an apocalypse about to happen”
“From there, I thought there was a man in my room laying at the other end of my bed looking at me. I hid under my covers the whole night and was in sweats – how hilarious and weird dreams are?”

About RIIKI REID
Born Raquel Abolins-Reid, the visual elements of her latest project are a nod to her Māori, Samoan and Scottish heritage – with weaving font and a colour palette of blacks, reds and whites. Throughout all creative elements of the project – fashion, font, video, and music – there are contemporary glimpses of the 70s/80s and 90s; all brought together by an exciting artist that will continue to surprise, and who is one to watch.
RIIKI REID first released music in 2019, listeners were quickly hooked on the RIIKI sound. Her single “High Heights” has had over 2 million streams, while singles “One Day”, “Share Your Luv”, “Good Times” (#1 on the Hot NZ Singles Chart) and “In the Moment” have also had streaming, playlist and radio success.
Having recently completed an arena tour with L.A.B, RIIKI REID, along with her band, have previously played alongside some of NZ’s biggest names, including The Black Seeds, JessB, Katchafire, and Dave Dobbyn.

AMNPLIFY – NB
My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
