Darcy returns with unapologetic new single Traitor (releasing June 10). Traitor is a raucous pop-rock track dedicated to all those who have been wronged by a lover. Written by Darcy and Melbourne producer Julian Schweitzer, Traitor takes the listener on a journey through it’s gritty guitars, 808s and hard-hitting lyricism whilst creating a stirring energy similar to the likes of Halsey and Maggie Lindemann. Speaking to the meaning behind the heart-rendering track, Darcy explains: “Traitor was written about a love interest of mine who left right when I needed them most. Our relationship was perfect, I truly believed we were soulmates until they were suddenly just gone. It was by far the worst heartbreak I’d ever been through, however my sadness soon turned to anger and writing this song was the perfect release of all that energy that had built up. The great thing about Traitor is that it can really be about anything you want it to be, if any person has ever done you wrong, whether it’s a family member, a friend or a partner, this is the perfect song to scream in the car to.”
Not her first rodeo, Darcy previously made a name for herself appearing on The Voice on Team George. She has performed at an array of festivals and events including Boolarra Folk Festival, Frankston Music Festival, Kids Fashion Meets Music, Army of Dreams (Sydney) and more. Along with some intoxicating headline shows, Darcy has supported many Melbourne-based artists including AYDAN, Royce, David Taylor and Mitch Gardner.
Traitor is the first taste from Darcy’s debut EP out late 2022.
“You’ve got such a beautiful voice and those low bits of your voice were just so good!” – Boy George
“You are a star” – Seal

Have you always wanted to be a musician? When did you get the song writing bug?
Since about the age of 6 or 7 I won the talent competition at my school, I sang Big Girls Don’t Cry by Fergie (classic) and since then I knew singing and performing was something I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I started songwriting around the age of 13 when I got my first guitar.
How would you describe your sound? Why do you think people resonate with your music?
For a really long time my sound was very much pop/acoustic (think old school Katy Perry) but recently I’ve ditched the acoustic sound as I’ve had access to a bit more and have been able to experiment which is super fun. I’m definitely floating more around the pop/pop-rock sound now and I’m loving it.
Which artist’s music and/or performance, past or present, inspires you today?
Katy Perry has been the artist I look up to pretty much my whole life. Her songwriting has definitely influenced the way I’ve learnt to write songs and every performance I’ve seen of hers live has brought me to tears every time.
Your new single ‘Traitor’ is about to be released! Describe its origin and evolution.
My producer Julian, sent me the demo he made with only the chorus he had come up with and immediately I fell in love with it. As we continued writing it, it really started to remind me of a situation I was currently going through which gave me so many ideas and really encouraged me to add that extra bit of edge to it to make it a bit more personal ;)
Is there an EP or Album on the drawing board?
Yes, Julian and I have been writing our butts off, aiming towards an upcoming EP which should be really exciting.
Any tours or events coming up soon? What are you looking forward to, and what can the fans expect?
At the moment, nothing is planned in terms of a tour however I have a few performances planned in the coming months which I am really looking forward to as I haven’t had the chance to perform for a really long time. People can definitely expect to see a new side to me as a performer.

How has COVID affected you to date? What have you introduced to balance the losses from missed events?
I’m not someone who gigs a whole lot or relies on gigs for a steady income so I am somewhat lucky that COVID hasn’t taken that much away from me in terms of music, however in saying that, I still haven’t been able to perform for a really long time so my confidence has probably faded quite a bit, but COVID has allowed me to do a lot of work behind the scenes as well as create a lot of online content which I am quite grateful for.
If you could perform with any music artist, Alive or Dead, who would you choose? And why?
Katy Perry (for obvious reasons, she’s my idol) would be an absolute dream come true. I’d be able to die happy for sure.
Do you have any long-term aspirations as a music artist?
I’d love to get to a point where I can actually tour properly. I’d love to have sold out shows rather than just sitting in the back of a cafe or restaurant where no-ones paying attention. I’d also love to be a signed artist one day soon.
What is the best thing about performing to a live audience? What’s been the career highlight so far?
Seeing people actually enjoy my music and having them feel something. The career highlight so far would definitely have to be my time on The Voice Australia a couple of years ago. Being able to perform in front of some pretty big names and actually get feedback and encouragement from them is a once in a lifetime experience that I still can’t believe happened to be honest.
