Melbourne pop punk outfit, Slowly Slowly, tore the house down in Adelaide last night, finalising their current national tour after illness caused them to postpone this show last month. And the crowd went wild!

The night began with Adelaide’s alt-punk band, Agapanther, who quickly set the scene for an epic night. Pure, ferocious energy and tight thrashing riffs got the crowd moving early.

Melbourne’s singer-songwriter Shannen James has been a feature on Slowly Slowly’s latest tour in most states. The four-piece band provided a catchy set featuring soaring vocals and tight instrumentation. A Fleetwood Mac cover was well received.

Finally, Slowly Slowly exploded onto the stage, instantly going mental with forceful energy that really energised their fans. The crowd quickly became a singular, heaving mass, crammed into the compact LAF theatre space. This was the first time Slowly Slowly had performed in Adelaide for around 1,000 days and it was definitely worth the wait. Lead singer Ben Stewart was clearly the driving force of the band, but did not over-shadow the other members who equally shone in their own right. New songs were as well received as the all time favourites. Everyone seemed to know the words to everything they played.

New single ‘Nothing On’ features Shannen James, who joined the band to perform this song.  Ben played a couple of solo songs. He reminisced about the days when he toured solo by playing ‘New York in Paris’ and ‘Comets & Zombies’. But it was the stage antics like crowd surfing and leaps from the drum kit that really got the crowd’s attention. Everyone had a hand in the air trying to film with their phones.

Of course they saved the best till last, playing ‘Creature Of Habit’ pt1 and pt2 as their encore songs, which left the crowd fully satisfied. One keen punter told me “It was the best set I have seen from them, they are always brilliant and a band not-to-miss!” That pretty well sums up their Adelaide show.
