Eccentric Australian pop luminary Ben Lee today releases his 20th album – ‘I’M FUN!’ – taking listeners on a reflective journey through his prolific and unpredictable life. Stream and download the album HERE via Warner Music Australia and vinyl and merch bundles available HERE.
An ode to getting older, getting weirder and getting better, ‘I’M FUN!’ features 2021’s anthem, “Born For This Bullshit” featuring Sad13; followed by subsequent singles including the nonduality of “Like This Or Like That”, the time-warping “Parents Get High” featuring Washington, and the reflective “Arsehole” featuring Georgia Maq from Camp Cope.

Despite live album recording sessions being thwarted by the pandemic, the singer-songwriter, composer and producer and his ‘I’M FUN!’ collaborators Zooey Deschanel, Money Mark (Beastie Boys), Christian Lee Hutson and Eric D Johnson (Fruit Bats/The Shins); and producers Jon Brior, Shamir, Sadie Dupuis (Sad13) and Darren Seltmann, wove their magic remotely, sharing their vocals, parts and arrangements online.
‘I’M FUN!’ is Lee at his most reflective. From his polarizing Andy Kauffman-esque performance art antics in his younger years, to ego annihilation via plant-medicine, cults and spiritual gurus decades later, Lee’s 20th studio album examines a life lived full – albeit with various twists and turns – arriving at indie-pop sageness, some thirty years later.

Underpinning this well-documented contribution to popular culture, is Lee’s dedication to fun. Ben says, “I’ve always done what seemed fun to me at the time. There is no other compass for me than what is enjoyable… But in general, the vibe that is getting you off as an artist is what you have to do. Every single time I’ve done what you’re meant to do, it has never worked out. And I’ve tried it enough times.”
“I hope that people look back and go, “Wow, that guy did what he wanted to do and that added some value to the world,” because we need people doing that to give us all courage.”
Honing an oeuvre of alt-pop eclecticism since he exploded onto the scene as a precocious 13-year-old with band Noise Addict in 1993, the 43-year-old is certain he’s stepping into his prime years – much like his musical heroes. With 450k monthly Spotify listeners and 73M global streams, Lee’s brutal honesty and authenticity as a singer-songwriter, etches his place as a singular voice in the pop canon.

Across his 30-year music career, the 4x ARIA award winning artist’s boasts an enviable catalogue which is now represented by Warner Music Australia, including ‘Grandpaw Would’ [1995], ‘Something To Remember Me By’ [1997], ‘Breathing Tornados’ [1998], 2x ARIA Platinum album ‘Awake Is The New Sleep’ [2005], ‘Ripe’ [2007], ‘The Rebirth of Venus’ [2009], ‘Deeper IntoDream’ [2011] which have collectively spawned a multitude of chart hits, including “Cigarettes Will Kill You”, “Gamble Everything For Love”, “We’re All in This Together” and “Catch My Disease”.

AMNPLIFY – DB
My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
