One of New Zealand’s elite hip-hop forces, JessB returns with her new single, “Can’t Fake It” – out now via The Orchard.

In trademark form, the track bumps from the bounce with a melodic 808 setting a tight rhythm for JessB to rap atop. A high-octane confidence oozes as JessB speaks straight from the heart, with a dynamo attitude and optimistic outlook of resilience. Produced by MOW Music, “Can’t Fake It” is a welcomed comeback for the NZ-based MC and ushers in a heaving house perspective that spares no ears.

JessB notes on the track: “After the ‘3 Nights In Amsterdam’ EP & two years of lockdowns I was finally able to get back and have 7 more nights in Amsterdam to make some fun tracks with one of my favourite producers. A lighthearted club banger for ya head top.”

Today’s single follows JessB’s feature on Eora-based rapper Sophiya’s “KWEEN ENERGY”, which saw an addition to rotation on triple j earlier this year. Jess’ 2021 solo single, “From Tha Jump”, received spins across triple j and community radio, alongside additions to MTV, Rage and tastemaking coverage from NME, Pilerats, Sniffers and more. The single followed a collection of remixes throughout 2021 as well as Jess’ applauded 2020 EP, 3 Nights in Amsterdam. The EP saw JessB reach new heights of recognition beyond New Zealand’s talented artist pool, as she wove between genres like dancehall and Reggaeton with ease. Mixed with razor sharp, slick tongued rhymes and guided by her own raw, distinct style, JessB lived up to the hype. On release, the EP received praise from NME, Acclaim, 10 Magazine, and Pilerats, with the mixtape’s standout single “Bullseye” reaching over 1M streams.

After a stacked past two years, JessB continues to add accolades to the list. From joining forces with OKENYO to remix global star Saweetie’s collaboration with Doja Cat, “Best Friend” which now runs platinum, to re-working US Dancehall artist Kranium’s wavy single “Toxic”, Jess’ rise through the ranks of hip-hop is attributed to her energetic, outspoken style, and a sound cultivated over years in the business. Jess became the first female MC to appear on Red Bull 64 Bars in 2017, and has since represented New Zealand hip-hop on stages in London, Amsterdam, LA and New York. From festival performances at The Great Escape, Venice Biennale, Spotify A1 Live, Red Bull Music Festival, Splendour in the Grass to Laneway Festival, and as an opening rapper for high profile international acts Lil Simz, Stormzy, YG, BENEE and more, Jess’ stage presence precedes her. Ahead of gracing the Summer Camp stage in November, most recently, JessB has performed at this year’s BIGSOUND conference, toured Europe and appeared at a virtual International Women’s Day Conference hosted by Saweetie. Additionally, JessB holds MTV European Music Award for Best New Zealand Act to her name, alongside two prior acclaimed EPs, New Views and Bloom, which have brought a growing legion of fans eager to hear more new music.

As an unstoppable talent in New Zealand and on the world circuit at large, JessB today returns true to form with a rap heater, “Can’t Fake It” – the first of more to follow in 2022.
