If Karen Harding’s latest single “Strong For You” doesn’t have your heart aching but the last chord of the song, then you might be a little dead inside, because this a song that reaches deep within to take residence into your memories, aspirations and regrets.
Karen is an artist from Melbourne who has recently partnered up with Argentina’s P&M Records which produced this melancholic indie-folk track. It seems to be a solid partnership with “Strong For You’s” simple guitars and stripped-back arrangement complimenting Karen’s wistful lyrics and dulcet voice. The song’s inspiration is rooted in the idea that “Strong For You” can mean many things depending on the listener. It can be a song of solidarity for someone you love,”I’ll be strong for you, it’ll be a journey but we’ll see it through”. It can refer to Karen herself as a song of introspection where she comes to terms with accepting her strengths and flaws, “There’s a fire burning strong, I don’t know what it is but it’s hiding the way I’m walking. So it is, so it is.” But also, Karen has commented that ultimately the song is about healing.

Certainly, to listen to the comforting melody and Karen’s step-softly approach to the vocals, the singer-songwriter has written a song that envelopes you warmly and resonants on an emotional level. It has that lilt of a Kate Miller-Heidke song yet with the passion of a Sarah McLachlan ballad. Her ethereal vocals remain front and centre of “Strong For You” creating the light and shade that is needed for the song’s subject.
Karen’s siren-esque vocal range and songwriting talent have caught the attention of independent radio stations in Australia and abroad. After hearing the assured way she approached this soothing track it’s a safe bet to say that we can expect to hear more insightful music from Karen Harding.
