Very few artists can cradle your heart in their hands while they kick your ass, but musician and mother of three, Emily Lubitz is striding out on her own and is excited to share her debut solo endeavour Begin Again EP on Friday 4 November, with live performances across November and December in Victoria, New South Wales, and Queensland, including an appearance at Queenscliff Music Festival.
With that timeless, aching quality that only great voices have, Lubitz is every singer’s favourite singer. This captivating live performer has won the hearts of audiences worldwide, yet she is more priestess than a popstar, creating her own iconography that sears itself into the listener’s imagination. Telling stories about everyday things, her voice transfigures them into works of beauty, like a messy bedroom suffused with golden morning light: “Sometimes we just need to pretend things are better than they are. Remember how it used to be. Sometimes we share the pain that seems bottomless and we can only acknowledge it in a glance, while we try to keep it together, get the kids to bed, share a beer and put a record on.”
Begin Again is often surprised by commonplace images from domestic life that rear up out of the darkness, saturated by a strange poetic force. Emily’s collection of songs tells stories of the everyday uncanny and the gravitational pull of love on the first single ‘Like I Do’, the strong imagery and sorrowful lyrics of ‘Foolish Kids’, and the trusting acceptance of the title track ‘Begin Again’. Whether dreaming of how Beyonce tours in ‘What She’s Got’ or ‘Sinking Ship’s’ description of the unveiled honesty in a long-term relationship, Begin Again shows the heart wrenching and heartwarming experience of being human.

After more than a decade of touring with her critically acclaimed band Tinpan Orange, Emily Lubitz is excited for her new chapter as a solo artist and has already collaborated and appeared on some of the world’s biggest stages with the likes of Paul Kelly, Paul Grabowsky, Martha Wainwright, and Clare Bowditch to name a few.
During 2021 and 2022, Lubitz alongside her husband and fellow musician Harry James Angus, collaborated with First Nations educators and artists to write, record and perform children’s songs in the Arrernte language. Working with Alice Springs based organisation, Children’s Ground, the pair helped to put on a show sung entirely in language with First Nations artists at this year’s The Desert Festival. Recordings of these 8 songs will be released next year.
And, more recently the husband and wife duo brought to life the latest iteration of the ‘Because Life Happens’ Bupa Health Insurance campaign which features the original composition of ‘This is Living’ which can be seen and heard on national television, Youtube and Spotify adverts.
So, don’t miss your chance to see the charismatic performer with musical forces Freyja Hooper on drums, Winona Miller on bass and Lawrence Folvig on guitar when they celebrate the release of Begin Again with dates across Victoria, New South Wales, and Queensland, including an appearance at Queenscliff Music Festival during November and December.

AMNPLIFY – DB
My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
