Musica Copa is the beloved charity 5-a-side football tournament for the music industry that has been kicking goals and raising money for many deserving charities since 2013. On Thursday 15th December 2022 Musica Copa returns to Centennial Parklands Sports Centre, Moore Park after a 2-year gap.

Due to popular demand the football fundraiser is expanding to 36 teams with the introduction of a new 3x division league system, with 12 teams competing in each division and promotion/relegation introduced for the very first time. Over $30,000 in prize money will be donated directly to the nominated charities of the winning teams, with a broad spectrum of key and influential businesses represented across the Australian music industry.

The major record labels are covered by Sony, Universal and Warner Music, alongside independent tastemakers Future Classic, Inertia / [PIAS] Australia, Neon Records, NLV Records, Sweat It Out and TMRW Music and label distributors Believe and The Orchard. Global DSP’s Apple Music and Spotify take to the field together with national touring promoters Astral People, Mushroom Group, Secret Sounds and Untitled Group and a wealth of booking agencies and management companies Chugg Music, FRNDS MGMT, UNIFIED x Annex, UNDR Ctrl and WME.

Top tier music media is sorted thanks to CADA, FBi Radio and MTV, whilst iconic Sydney venues Century Venues (Enmore, Metro, Factory Theatre) and Oxford Art Factory represent the live music scene together with hospitality big dawgs Mary’s, Merivale and Solotel, plus music governing body APRA AMCOS.

Ticketing and booking software agents Moshtix and Muzeek make their debuts alongside drinks buddies ATOMIC BEER and Red Bull… and finally, in our continued efforts to further gender equality across the music industry, Musica Copa continues its ‘open mixed’ team format (so men and women playing together) and welcomes the first ever Pararoos x Para-Matildas joint team featuring members of the men’s and women’s Paralympic soccer teams (athletes with cerebral palsy, acquired brain injury or symptoms acquired from stroke).

We are delighted to continue our partnership with PARK SSC, who support refugees and people seeking asylum, at-risk youth, abandoned children and equal opportunities for girls. PARK SSC’s incredible ‘Pass-A-Ball’ initiative will return to Musica Copa where for every goal scored during the tournament, PARK SSC will ‘pass another ball’ to a child in need around the world. One for one. Thanks to their generosity, a total number of 264 x PARK SSC footballs were passed onto under privileged children in need, so let’s hope we score even more goals this year!

The confirmed charities nominated by this year’s teams are: Aboriginal Legal Services, Addi Road, Australian Children’s Music Foundation (ACMF), Barpirdhila Foundation, Black Dog Institute, Black Rainbow Australia, Cancer Council, Mirabel Foundation, Council of Single Mothers and their Children (CSMC), Heaps Decent, Musicians Making A Difference (MMAD), National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF), R U OK, Redfern Foundation, Redfern Youth Connect, ReForest Now, RSPCA, Safe Steps, Seed Mob, Sony Foundation, Sunnyfield, Support Act, The Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Women’s Shelter, The Ireland Funds, The Push, Wings For Life Foundation and Women’s and Girls’ Emergency Centre. The $30,000 prize money will be split amongst the charities of the winning teams from Divisions 1, 2 and 3.

Musica Copa is humbled to introduce the inaugural Justin Cosby Fair Play Award in celebration of the extraordinary life of this amazing man. Justin was the co-founder and A&R director of Inertia Music and a friend and supporter to so many people across the music industry over a number of decades. Rather fittingly, Justin was the last recipient of Musica Copa’s Fair Play award and it seems only right to honour him in this way.

ABC and CADA presenter Marty Smiley returns as the official host for the day, with Muzeek powering the Musica Copa Soundsystem featuring DJs Kana Frazer, ISA, Reenie and Sandro Dallarmi from community radio legends FBi Radio.

Special thanks must go to our amazing partners ATOMIC BEER, Buzz Speakers, C.A.N, Centennial Parklands Sports Centre, EMC, Espresso, Fireball, Heaps Normal, KIKOFF, Music & Booze Co, Muzeek, Nike, PARK SSC, Sportblock and Ultra Football, without whom the event wouldn’t be possible.

Founded in 2013 after a football match and a beer by football nuts Paul Stix and Martin Novosel (Purple Sneakers)., Musica Copa is the beloved charity 5-a-side football tournament for the music industry that has been kicking goals and raising money for many deserving charities since 2013.

Over the years, Musica Copa has enlisted a festival sized line-up of musicians/players on the pitch including Alex the Astronaut, Bag Raiders, Basenji, Cosmo’s Midnight, Crooked Colours, DMA’s, Flight Facilities, G Flip, Gang Of Youths, Joyride, Just A Gent, Kilter, Krewella, Matt Okine, Montaigne, Motez, Nina Las Vegas, Set Mo, The Rubens, What So Not, Winston Surfshirt and Young Franco. Whilst from the sports world we’ve been blessed with guest appearances from Fox Sports host Adam Peacock, Socceroo legends Brett Emerton, Matildas and W-League players Gabe Marzano, Emily Shields, Leena Khamis, Sham Khamis, Chantelle Symes and others.

Stix continues to run Musica Copa through his music agency UNDR Ctrl and he is looking forward to this year’s tournament more than ever.

“Musica Copa is hands down one of the most rewarding projects I’ve ever worked on. This year the tournament lines up alongside the men’s FIFA World Cup so the atmosphere should be electric! I’m so happy to see the event grow to 36 teams and for so many core music businesses and individuals to be as excited as we are to get back on the pitch and raise as much money as we can for a good cause.” – Paul Stix, UNDR Ctrl
