— out today

Evocative four-piece Dead Roo have today released their brand new self-titled EP. The Adelaide group, consisting of Jessica Johns, Jason Katsaras, Stuart Patterson and Hamish Gibson-Smith, have made their mark on the Australian scene with their unique brand of jangly alt-country, warm arrangements and stunning vocal harmonies. Dead Roo celebrated the EP with a very special live show at Nexus Arts Venue in Adelaide on December 10, with support from Siberian Tiger and Sour Sob. This show was an absolute must see, as it was the last Dead Roo show for the foreseeable future as the band pursues other projects.

The EP swells and expands, stretching comfortably across several themes and buoyed by gorgeous, gentle arrangements. Often Dead Roo will contemplate on just a couple of chords for almost an entire song, allowing the listener to marinate in the lush sound and really consider the heart-wrenching lyrics throughout the EP. The music taps influences like Angel Olsen and Dick Diver, while still embracing a generous, soft charm that feels totally unique to Dead Roo.
The songs on the EP deal with the messiness and serendipity of our early twenties, set against a backdrop of quintessential Adelaidean suburbia. Over My Head details a warm crush on a neighbour, while the single Compare Yourself sees the singer working through deep, entrenched insecurities. Summing up the scope of the EP, vocalist Jason says, “The songs are about love lost, to the doldrums of everyday life in Adelaide as a twenty-something. For every member of the band, these early years and songs written with Dead Roo were a formative experience.”
Dead Roo’s gorgeous, lush sound has been embraced by the local music scene, with the band joining line-ups with Aussie heavyweights West Thebarton and Bad//Dreems not long after their first release. Their 7” single featuring Nick Of Time completely sold out — which the band then celebrated with a COVID-safe show at The Gov in Adelaide.
Dead Roo took to the stage one last time on December 10 to welcome their new EP into the world.

AMNPLIFY – DB
My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
