Praise for DULCIE

“Perth trio Dulcie, who dropped the single ‘Tell Ur Friends’ earlier this year, completing their transition from neo-soul/indie-jazz kids to pop stars in the making. They’ve hung onto those chops from their early days, which makes their songwriting and performances all the better.” Music Feeds

“The cold hard truth is that this is a great band.” Triple J Unearthed, Sara Gladious (‘Cold Hard Truth’, 2022)

“With each release, Dulcie’s pop muscle gets stronger and stronger. So does their straight-from-the-heart songwriting that’s been their superpower since the very beginning.” Triple J Unearthed, Abby Butler (‘Nothing Left’, 2022)

“With their ethereal three-part vocal harmonies, Dulcie’s signature vocal layering is what pricks up your ears…” Scenestr

“The new Dulcie era isn’t here to wait for you, it yanks your wrist and takes you for a ride you won’t regret.” Triple J, Declan Byrne (‘Nothing Left’, 2022)

“I really dug their former organic ensemble sound, but DAMN if they don’t absolutely nail this pop thang!” Triple J, Al Newstead (‘tell ur friends’, 2022)

How did you all come together? Is there someone who is a “driving force”, or do you all make decisions together?
We first formed back in 2018. The band came together through our studies at WAAPA. As a band, we generally won’t decide on something unless it’s run past everyone, making sure we are all happy with it before going ahead.
For example; touring, supports, aesthetics, single releases etc. Each member of the band has different roles, but we’re all equal – we all have that driving force!

How would you describe your sound? Why do you think fans resonate with your music?
In three words, we think our sound would be: upbeat, harmonious & lyrical.
We feel like people might resonate with our music because of our lyrics. Most of our songs are about self-worth or heartbreak. Music is therapy, so if someone needs a good cry, or a pick me up, we think our music might do just the trick. It’s super nice knowing there are people out there that love our music, such a beautiful feeling.

Which artist’s music and/or performance, past or present, inspires you today?
We feel as though our influences and inspirations are constantly changing. The more we write music, the more new artists we discover!
Our most recent influences in regards to songwriting & sound would definitely be Slow Pulp, Del Water Gap, Maggie Rogers, Eliza & The Delusionals.
Our main influences in regards to live performances would be Olivia Rodrigo, MAY-A, Billie Eilish. All of the amazing rock chicks that make you want to dance your heart out.

Your new single ‘Test Drive’ has just been released! Describe its origin and evolution.
Saskia wrote this song back in September 2022. She was in lock down, sitting on the grass out the back of her house on a nice sunny day. It first came about with the chorus lyrics “took me for a test drive, left me at a stop sign”. These lyrics came to her at work one day and she knew she had to write a song revolving around them.
After the song was complete we took it to our good mate & fellow producer Joel Quartermain.
In its final stages of production, we played Bigsound 2022 and by chance Konstantin Kersting was in the crowd.
Within the next few days we had organised a time for us to finish off the production with Kon. Everything just fell into place with this track & we appreciate everyone who helped us get it to where it is today.

Is there an EP or Album on the drawing board?
We have so many new songs to share with you all but we haven’t made the decision if they will be coming out as an EP or album just yet. We can tell you that we have a few more singles up our sleeves ready to drop within the next few months!

Any tours or events coming up soon? What are you looking forward to, and what can the fans expect?
As 2023 is a brand spanka of a year, we don’t have anything planned just yet. We hope it is as jammed packed as last year.  You can expect lots & lots more music & national Australian shows. Keep an eye out on our socials for show/ song/ tour updates.

If you could perform with any music artist, Alive or Dead, who would you choose? And why?
Holly Humberstone, Harry Styles, Slow {ulp, Olivia Rodrigo, Billie Eilish, ahhhh the list could just go on, here’s only a few of the artists we wish to play alongside/ perform with. But out of this list definitely Harry Styles, that would be nuts!

What are your long-term aspirations as a music artist and how are you progressing towards them?
Our long term aspirations would be to grow our fan base from Australia-wide to Worldwide, that’s a major goal for us! A more achievable goal for the next 2 years would be hearing one of our songs on triple j’s hottest 100!
Continuing to be humble & grounded, always writing new songs, pushing through the writers block and exploring our creativity, would be ways in which we can achieve these goals.

With that in mind, what piece of advice would you give to an artist starting out?
If you’re a fresh muso, our advice to you would be, no matter how tough it can get starting out in such a big industry, you are so so talented and valid! Music is so diverse and there will be so many people who appreciate your sound and songwriting. Just absolutely go for it! Don’t let anything hold you back.

What is the best thing about performing to a live audience? What’s been the career highlight so far?
The best thing about live performances would definitely be the emotions shared within the room! Whether people know our songs or not, it’s so amazing to see people vibing and showing us that they are enjoying something we have out a lot of time and effort into. Being onstage and playing music with some of your closest mates is also a spin out in its self. SUCH A GOOD FEELING!
