In a world where music is at your fingertips, NTS – the renowned global music platform and radio station – has consistently been at the forefront of music discovery, reshaping how musicians and fans connect across the globe. Now it’s Australia’s turn to get in on the action.

What started out as a DIY passion project in Hackney in 2011 – with the aim of creating an alternative to stagnant mainstream radio – has grown into a music lover’s playground, with permanent studios in London, Los Angeles, and Manchester. Broadcasting from over sixty cities every month, the platform now has over 600 resident hosts, composed of a mix of musicians, DJs, artists, and everything in between.

Consistently championing the underground scene and a leading voice in alternative culture, over half the music played on NTS isn’t available on Spotify or Apple Music. With a growing global audience of 3 million monthly listeners, NTS is broadcasting the best in underground music on a mass scale – completely free of charge and without on-air advertising.

Finally touching down again in the Southern Hemisphere after almost a decade, NTS will be taking over the Northcote Theatre in Melbourne on Sunday March 19, to mark the launch of a new Oceania events offering, with a line-up of artists that span genres, cultures, and countries.

Ranging from dancehall to leftfield electronic, experimental techno to psych rock, audiences will experience sets from a diverse range of world-renowned artists and notable NTS residents. These include headliners such as Tokyo artist Soichi Terada, known as much for his 90s deep house club tracks as his cult video game soundtracks, alongside Jamaican trailblazing dancehall queen, Sister Nancy.

One of the NTS residents flying over from the UK is Shy One, an advocate for London’s marginalised LGBTQI+ and POC communities, who will be DJing back-to-back with fellow resident Ruby Savage, sure to deliver an eclectic mix bridging funk, boogie, dub, and house.

This mammoth debut event is just a taste of what’s to come, with plans for even larger events, take-overs and collaborations across Australia and neighbouring Oceania countries this year.
