Alt-pop artist MAY-A has shared her sinful new single and video, ‘Your Funeral’ – out via Sony Music Entertainment Australia.
“‘Your Funeral’ is about seeking out the things you know are bad for you because you’re a little bit of a sadist,” says MAY-A. “It’s playing devil’s advocate. It’s a self-deprecating, slightly satirical comment on not being able to accept the love people want to give you. Hurting people by leaving because you’re terrified of them leaving first. The bridge is the core of the song in my eyes. It all feels like a bit of a joke until you get to the middle eight, where it strips down and the bullshit is cut for a second, acknowledging that ‘If you really think that we’re suitable, then that’s your funeral.’”
‘Your Funeral’ marks another notch in a huge 2023 for MAY-A. The track follows ‘Sweat You Out My System’, released January 13 while on tour in the UK with Wallows, and continues this new, visionary era for MAY-A which sees her exploring and experimenting with new sounds and experiences.
Last month saw MAY-A rocking a new instalment of Fender’s popular Fender Session, where she discussed the impact music has on her life, the unique personalities of various guitars, and her creative process, along with a trio of electrifying live performances including ‘Sweat You Out My System’, ‘Apricots’, ‘Say Nothing’ with Flume, which took out the top spot in triple j’s Hottest 100 this year and is Certified ARIA Platinum.

AMNPLIFY – DB
My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
