Having released three singles over the last 18 months, ‘Hard For Me’, ‘Arizona’ and ‘I Suck At Being Lonely’ – all of which have accumulated 6 millions combined streams and the last of which earned her a Top 4 positioning at Eurovision Australia Decides in 2022, Sydney based pop chanteuse, Charley releases her next single ‘Worst Taste in Girls’ – an energetic and infectious pop anthem with themes of heartbreak and self-discovery.

Co-written, recorded and produced in Sydney with Anthony Egizii and David Musumeci of DNA (The Veronicas, Jessica Mauboy) and influenced by the song writing of artists such as Julia Michaels, Mimi Webb and Ariana Grande, ‘Worst Taste In Girls’ is a spirited ride into Charley’s own personal stories of heartbreak and the challenges that ensue from trying to love emotionally unavailable people.

“This song came from a place of heart break and needing an outlet to release all my anger that life has thrown at me. But in writing this song it made me realise that I just need to embrace the heartache, be in love and go for what I want because at the end of the day we’re gonna die so may as well make life interesting while it lasts!” adds Charley.

Directed by Sean Higgins & Adrian Spuria of Shotography, the video for ‘Worst Taste In Girls’ draws influence from the fun and ridiculous over dramatised action of 80’s American slasher flicks such as Halloween, Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Friday The 13th.

Music has always been a source of empowerment for Charley. Growing up in a family of musicians, she gravitated towards performing and song writing as an outlet of self-expression, even starting a band with her cousins while in high school. Charley’s fascination with song writing continued solo, evolving into a therapeutic, cathartic outlet, as she grew up and took on new experiences. Her first major heart break encouraged her to take song writing more seriously, and since then, it has been full steam ahead. “It’s such an emotional thing for me,” she says. “It’s so personal and real.”

Charley’s travelled to Nashville, Sweden and Los Angeles to collaborate with international writers, made her live debut supporting artists such as CXLOE, MAY-A and Rebecca Black, performed at events including Isol-Aid Festival, and had her debut single – ‘Hard For Me’ – attract attention on streaming, radio and online, including coveted support from Spotify, Apple Music, Side NoteNME, Pilerats, Life Without Andy and more.

Charley’s heart on the sleeve approach to fearless song writing proves that the future of Australian pop is in strong, talented hands.
