Fast-rising Australian pop artist Oliver Cronin is kicking off the year with ‘Speed Bump’. One of his darkest and most personal songs yet, it’s a stunning push forward following the release of his debut EP “Beautiful Nightmare” last year. Listen HERE.
Capturing the midst of a tumultuous relationship, the genre-tripping cut mixes icy trap beats with raw, rock-tinged guitars. It’s the perfect steely backdrop for Cronin’s unfiltered songwriting that vividly recounts the throes of a messy relationship.
“I wrote Speed Bump on TikTok live with the help of fans. I was at a time in my life where I felt I could do no right, everything seemed to be falling apart. Something that I feel everyone can relate to is the period after a significant loss. Whether it be a breakup, loss of friendships, or a loved one, we all go through a moment of pain where it feels like the world is ending. I hope this track can show people that they’re not alone, and let’s push through this together.” says Oliver of the song.
Oliver Cronin has all ears turned towards him right now after a breakthrough 2022. His debut EP “Beautiful Nightmare’ featured “Boys Don’t Cry”, a standout moment that has amassed over 5 million streams after it resonated with audiences on TikTok. In the process, it reached numerous corner of the globe hitting Spotify’s Viral Charts in Germany (#9), Czech Republic (#20), and Austria (#54).
Given how open Cronin’s music is, it’s perhaps unsurprising that his connection with his fans is strong. With over 200,000 followers on TikTok, he’s used his page as a space to make music in front of fans. His mini-EP “For Now” was made up of songs that were literally made from scratch on TikTok. Once again, ‘Speed Bump’ came to life on the platform with Cronin forming the bones of the track on TikTok Live. Now, Cronin is hard at work on a full-length project which he’s teasing as a, “big step up sonically,” and he says “Speed Bump” is the perfect precursor.
