Interview by Dave Bruce
How did the band come together? Is there someone who is a “driving force”, or do you all make decisions together?
Rebecca: As sisters, we feel so fortunate to be equal partners in every aspect of Larkin Poe. Our dynamic as sisters is the axis upon which everything – the music, the styling, the language – turns. Larkin Poe is 50% Megan and 50% Rebecca. How would you describe your sound? Why do you think people resonate with your music?
Megan: We call our music “Roots Rock N Roll” – which is an intentionally broad description! We draw influence from the stylings of traditional American music: the blues, bluegrass, gospel, soul; and want to be able to channel all those influences into our sound without narrowing ourselves down. I think people resonate with our music because, if nothing else, our music is authentic.Which artist’s music and/or performance, past or present, inspires you today?
Rebecca: I have been a huge Chris Whitley fan for years and continue to take super-sized portions of inspiration from his songwriting and musicianship. What are you looking forward to, and what can the fans expect?
Megan: We’re doing a lot of touring around the world in 2023, supporting our newest album ‘Blood Harmony’ and we hope folks will come out and celebrate with us.Do you have any long-term aspirations as a music artist?
Rebecca: We want to keep growing. I think that’s the main goal for us. Ultimately, we want to continue digging deeper and deeper with each passing year and to hopefully find new insights into who we are as songwriters, musicians, producers, and performers. What is the best thing about performing to a live audience? What’s been the career highlight so far?
Megan: To the core, we are a touring band. We love performing live and deeply, deeply cherish the connections that can spark with an audience. When people choose to open their hearts at a show and get involved, dance around, sing along, it can truly transform a regular old Friday night show into a spiritual experience. We live for those moments. Finally, a few questions for some quick answers –
