Boorloo/Perth-based indie-rock band Sophian have just released their shimmering new single ‘Georgia’ – produced by Dave Parkin at Blackbird Studios (Spacey Jane, Sly Withers, OldMervs).
‘Georgia’ inaugurates its enchanting nature with gorgeous guitar chords, suave keyboards, and gently guiding drums. The sugary vocals from frontman Sophian Manik pilot the track’s charismatic verse, as it elevates towards a mesmerising chorus, swaying with vibrancy and spirit. The band’s chemistry is spotlighted in the buoyant bridge, as fuzz-laden melodies collide before a gang-vocal break heightens the song towards a purifying finale.
Sophian talks about the story behind ‘Georgia’: “We are going behind a very beachy vibe. We want to inspire and spread happiness with this song. The song itself is about a sailor falling in love with a mermaid but finding it difficult to maintain the relationship given their differences. It’s also a metaphor for what relationships in real life sometimes can be like. Things can be tough, but you can always work on turning them into something positive. We love the ocean and the beach. So, it was only natural for us to explore a song which would incorporate the ocean and also campfire vibes of bringing people together.”
To celebrate the release, Sophian will be playing a single launch at The Bird in Boorloo/Perth on Friday, May 5. In the live arena, the band sold out their ‘Honey’ single launch at El Grotto – capping the room at 180 tickets – and have shared the stage with the likes of COTERIE, DICE, Rum Jungle, South Summit,Lazy Ghost and The Velvet Club.
Taking cues from the likes of Spacey Jane, Ocean Alley and Kings of Leon, Sophian have established themselves as one of Western Australia’s most promising and exciting indie-rock bands. Through their dynamically fluid music and their animated live performances, the band have cultivated a devoted fanbase across Australia’s West Coast. Previous releases have received support from triple j Unearthed, RTR FM, MILKY, scenestr, Amazing Radio (UK) and Australian community radio.
