with new single
“BED ARREST”

North Queensland artist KARLOU, who recently played to a packed audience at the Woodford Folk Festival, is back with her latest single, “Bed Arrest,” which is out today.
KARLOU, an indie pop artist who found her musical footing on the Sunshine Coast in 2019,has been making a name for herself with her unique sound, which draws inspiration from artists like MAY-A, Ruel, and Renforshort. Her pop melodies are relatable and capture the highs and lows of everyday life.

“Bed Arrest” is KARLOU’s latest offering, inspired by her experience with sleepwalking. “I have always been a tragic sleepwalker,” says KARLOU. “I’d often find myself in different places doing ordinary things and also stuck in vivid dreams, waking up in a panic – so much that I was afraid to fall asleep at night. Bed Arrest is a play on words of getting a ‘better rest’ and also the insinuation that I should be kept restrained to my bed.”
Taking on inspiration from Dominic Fike, KARLOU entered the writing session with Matt McGuffie (IVEY) to birth a dreamy anthem flowing into an edgy yet propelling chorus. Struck with raging, simultaneous guitars coinciding with a lyrical double-entendre, KARLOU expresses the feeling of getting ‘a better rest’.
Swiftly evolving from that safe space to performing live and unleashing her energetic charisma on stage. Expelling notions of memorable hooks and dynamic grooves, she has gone on to support the likes of Rubens, Sycco, Hope D and most recently, Mia Wray.
KARLOU’s single, “Bitter”, has been a great success, with over 30,000 streams on Spotify within the first month of release and landing on Spotify Editorial Playlists: Fresh Finds and AU/NZ Pop-Fresh Finds. Triple J’s Dave Ruby Howe said, “Really love the change-ups that KARLOU takes on this track, giving us the ups and downs of angsty teen drama.”
KARLOU is excited to release “Bed Arrest” and bring her energetic charisma to the stage at this year’s Groovin The Moo on the Sunshine Coast.
KARLOU’s upcoming release will surely be a hit with indie pop and beyond fans.
