‘A man with more than a good yarn. A reflective journey perhaps, soaked in his voice of unique character and heart felt melodies’ BDJ Sessions

Gifted from the earthy hillside mountain town of Harrietville, Victoria, Jack Raymond releases his latest single ‘Wide Eyes’ May 20th.

Raymond’s voice is raw, powerful, unrefined and gritty as he speaks a truth told only from the corner of whiskey bars at 2am – His soul is left bare from expression throughout his songwriting and Wide Eyes is a true reflection of this sentiment.

Following a successful tour spanning across QLD, NSW & VIC, Jack Raymond has been preparing relentlessly for ‘Wide Eyes’ to enter the world. Hauling inspiration from bands like Mumford & Sons and Ben Howard, Wide Eyes is set to put a stamp on the Australian music scene with its catchy, upbeat qualities.

Jack Raymond has many notable festivals under his belt, including slots at Kiama Blues Festival, The Gympie Muster & Sofar Sounds. In late 2023, Jack went on to become a finalist in the Australian Busking Championships and supporting touring acts, Hatz Fitz, Cara Robinson, Macondo Blowout, Ben Smith Band, Fat Picnic, Those Folk, Shannon Sol Carrol, The Long Johns… to name a few.

‘I really tried to write something a little bit different with wide eyes. It was more targeted towards a dancey fun singalong tune as opposed to my usual bluesy storytelling. I feel like this is a tune that you can put on while you’re having a few drinks with your friends or can comfortably sit in the background of a cafe or restaurant, while on stage you can hoot and holler and have a good time.’ – Jack Raymond

Wide Eyes was recorded at Yama-Nui studio in the lush landscape of Wombye, QLD. Produced, engineered and mixed by Steve Summers (Dear Doonan, Ziggy Alberts). Rounding out the team on mastering was Paul Blakey from 12th and Vine Post (Amy Shark, The Mason Rack Band).

Laurence Maynard & Steve Summers added their touch to Wide Eyes recording their intricate style of mandolin, keys and bass.

Words about the creation of ‘WIDE EYES’

Recording with Steve from Yama-nui studios was a real treat, the way that he treated this song was a real experience. From writing Wide Eyes to recording it was only about a week so it was a very fresh song, I went in with an idea and a basic layout. Within an afternoon we had a fun song down to demo stages. I called in Lawrence Maynard from “Those Folk” to assist with mandolin to really bring the track to life. Steve played the keys and bass on this track and put his producing knowledge into it. – Jack Raymond
