Infusing luring indie folk and rock elements with an introspective and melancholic energy that pushes and pulls, Aaron Thomas has skilfully pieced together an undeniably lush and captivating single, ‘Mouth Of The City’ (Out Friday, February 16). The single also comes with the announcement of his new album ‘Human Patterns’, set to be released on Friday, May 17.

The Tasmanian-born/ Adelaide-based singer-songwriter and producer has had an extensive career so far, having performed at international festivals including SXSW (Austin), CMJ (New York), Popkomm (Berlin) and London’s Concrete and Glass, as well as appearing at WOMAdelaide in 2017.

Before moving to Adelaide (Australia) in 2016, Aaron Thomas spent ten years living in Madrid, Spain, where he released three albums (‘Follow The Elephants’, ‘Made Of Wood’ and ‘The Blues And Greens’) as well as an EP (‘Splinter EP’) and a film soundtrack (‘Viaje A Surtsey’). In 2017, he released the EP ‘Always A Full Moon’ and is now releasing the first taste of his new full-length record in over ten years.

Like the finest of wines, Aaron Thomas’ songwriting and production sensibilities have resolved into a well-refined and emotive sonic haven with ‘Mouth Of The City’. This ominous alternative and indie folk/ rock track is intricately layered with full-bodied acoustic guitars, overdriven electric guitars coated in reverb and reverse delay, choir-like harmonies and Aaron Thomas’ enchanting and yearning vocals. Seamlessly, the haunting dissonance, eerie guitar buzzing effects, and tastefully gritty guitar solo culminate into a stark and brooding atmosphere that is both novel and accessible.

Pushing and pulling, this melancholic energy is extended through Aaron Thomas’ lyricism that poetically explores the feeling of the walls caving in and being unable to escape from your surroundings. Aaron Thomas explains what that means to him: “The song is about how the world you inhabit touches your mind and influences your behaviour. I fear being in a boring world or safe place and having my spirit and art knocked out of me.”

Get swallowed up whole with the first taste of Aaron Thomas’ full-length release and prepare for more from the artist throughout the first half of 2024. ‘Mouth Of The City’ from Aaron Thomas is out everywhere on Friday, February 16.
