“If you’re not across Fan Girl, you gotta be across them! This year they’re taking it by storm and they’re gonna absolutely blow up, I bet you top dollar” – Ash McGregor, triple j
Naarm/Melbourne-based alternative four-piece Fan Girl today share new single “the last one”, the first single from their anticipated forthcoming EP. In celebration, the band has released an accompanying video that serves as a further taste of the new era to come.
Known for their eclectic mix of colour, chaos and catchiness, “the last one” is a dark and honest step forward musically for Fan Girl. Kicking off with explosively enigmatic drums that set the stage for Noah Harris’ sincere shadowed vocals and with lyrics that cut deep into the essence of survival mode, “the last one” delves into doing whatever you can to just get through.
“the last one was written on the backend of a writing stint in Feb 2024. Like most of these songs, it came together very inspired, and super quickly. It started with a piano line that Vince played into an iPhone voice memo and sample, which we listened to obsessively.
We recorded at our studio ‘Taste Police’ in Brunswick. A lot of the final version of this song was built up from the demo we had done for it – including that iPhone piano. It is one of the least guitar-heavy songs we have ever released, and it notably features a lot of samples and programming. We really wanted the song to sit in a sinister and almost evil villain cartoon-y world. We then sent it off to Oli Barton-Wood (Nilüfer Yanya, Shame, Do Nothing) in London who performed his mysterious mixing hocus pocus before heading to mastering engineer Felix Davis (Porridge Radio, Folly Group, The Murder Capital) who made it loud. And now it is in your hands.
Over the last few months of writing, we have been toying with new sounds, prying open the artistic can of worms, and following our guts, and this song was the first that just landed right where we wanted it.” says the band.

Working in perfect chaotic harmony with “the last one”, the accompanying video clip filmed by Richard Clifford and written and directed by the band delivers an unhinged DIY masterpiece with a newfound spooky undertone that is truly twisted and eerie. With all the hallmarks of a cliche horror movie, the clip follows an unnerving journey through a cult dinner party, that spirals out of control in an attempt to indoctrinate an unsuspecting dinner guest.
Off the back of this exciting release, Fan Girl will headline Cactus Room in Melbourne on Friday 25 May. With a wealth of new music to come, coupled with their urgent explosive live show, this isn’t one to miss.

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
