Australian singer-songwriter Isaac Staines has today released his brand-new single You and I, an endearing love song about persisting through the rough times. You and I follows the blistering Self Sabotage, Isaac’s first single for 2024 – and offers fans a taste of his debut album, Embers to Ash, set for release on June 14. Having garnered high praised from the very best in the music business over the last few years, Isaac is fresh off the back of supporting one of Australia’s most beloved performers, Shannon Noll.

For fans of Ed Sheeran, Vance Joy and Coldplay’s Parachutes, You and I is as heartfelt as it gets. It almost feels like the kind of song you’d hear as a newlywed’s first dance, as the organic acoustic guitar flows gently into an irresistible chorus hook. Isaac’s voice is completely his own; idiosyncratic and delicate in its higher register – but with just the right amount of grit.

You and I speaks to a relationship that’s being tested. Within the track, Isaac asks the question – did the love in the relationship only exist in fleeting moments, or was it constant all along? It’s a question many people will be able to relate to, as Isaac asks: “Was our love more than just these memories?”

Isaac’s first single for 2024, Self Sabotage, an intimate piano-led ballad, is another example of his innate ability to capture the inner workings of a relationship within a song. This is was essentially Isaac’s ethos throughout the album-making process, too, as he says: “The story behind the album was a volatile breakup that was pretty tough to go through. But in saying that, writing these songs felt effortless. It’s like the words and the melodies were already in my head, and it was a great outlet to process all my emotions.”

Isaac’s rise has been phenomenal so far – and it’s only the beginning. Rita Ora once told him his voice had an “amazing, pure tone”, while Guy Sebastian enthused that he “couldn’t wait to see” where Isaac’s career took him next. Earlier in the year, Isaac booked himself a gig supporting Shannon Noll – all through the power of social media and his own keen fanbase. Reflecting on that experience, Isaac said, “Getting that gig was such a great opportunity. All my followers on social media coming together as a collective to ask Shannon Noll to choose me as his support act was such a testament to the kind of people I want in my corner. The kind of people I can connect with musically.”
