Sydney Opera HouseRapper, Malyangapa, Barkindji woman, and the Blak Matriarch of Hip-Hop, BARKAA unleashes the fire within on her anthemic new single and music video, “PREACH”, out now via Bad Apples Music.
Demanding attention and commanding respect, on “PREACH” BARKAA speaks truth to her power, with a reminder to play it big, and that all of our voices can be forces for change. Inspiring strength and self-assuredness in all who hear the track, full of swagger, she confidently declares “I ain’t going nowhere sis”. The beat, produced by Brisbane producer Nerve, blends rapid snares, drum claps and harmonic keys to create a melodic soundscape that allows BARKAA’s raw authenticity and unapologetic passion to cut through: “Talk is cheap, I’ve talked about it, I’ve got new shit to PREACH!”
BARKAA shared: “Preach is a big fuck you to anybody who still doubts you today and doubted you yesterday. It’s about having a voice… that we’re allowed to bignote ourselves and be loud in our successes and achievements. That I don’t have to stay in the bucket the colony put there to drop my people in. I made it out of that bucket so I can come back and kick it over. I got a new team, I turned over a new leaf and got rid of people not only in my personal life, but in my work life, who were doing me wrong. This clip is a reminder that I ain’t done. It’s takeover season for Blak artists in this country and we ain’t getting the wool pulled over our eyes anymore. If they try, they’ll fuck around and find out.”
“PREACH” follows the release of BARKAA’s triumphant single “We Up” in March, a call to staying in a centred zone of self-belief, and a reminder that nobody will ever bring BARKAA down again. The track was added to triple j, FBi Radio and SYN rotation, plus received widespread airplay across community radio. It received support from the likes of NITV, Rolling Stone Australia, ACCLAIM, Life Without Andy and Pilerats just to name a few. “PREACH” hits the message home – “we’re not going back to what broke us.”
BARKAA recently concluded a sold-out run of live shows – having performed at Sydney Opera House during VIVID LIVE, plus headline dates including Eora’s The Lansdowne and two nights at Naarm’s The Curtin. This comes on top of her recent feature in COMPLEX AU’s Goat Showdown, which saw her go head-to-head with DJ & designer Soju Gang. 2023 saw BARKAA make her debut at SXSW Sydney, perform her single “King Brown” – which recently celebrated 2 million streams – at the ARIA Awards, and launch an exclusive kids tee in collaboration with Haus of Dizzy. She closed out the year with an official Sydney NYE performance alongside 3% (Nooky, Dallas Woods, Angus Field) and more, while the Sydney Harbour Bridge was lit up with projections of BARKAA’s face illustrated by Janelle Burger.
Since the release of her debut single “For My Tittas” in 2020, BARKAA has swiftly climbed to one of the most respected voices in so-called Australia’s hip-hop community. That same year, BARKAA was named PUMA Rookie Of The Year Award by Acclaim Magazine, and has since been touted one of the top rappers in the country by triple j and Red Bull. BARKAA’s journey as an artist not only encompasses her musical prowess but sees her work underpinned by a dedication to advocate for her First Nations community, amplified through her collaboration with Mackridge on “22clan”. Her debut EP, Blak Matriarchy celebrated Blak motherhood across six tracks of powerful manifestation, and scored accolades from the likes of The Guardian, Rolling Stone Australia, NME, 10 Magazine, features from triple j, community radio and more.
From featuring in Vogue Magazine, Need For Speed and NBA2K to live performances including Listen Out, Groovin The Moo and Sissy Ball for last year’s Sydney WorldPride, BARKAA continues to rise to new heights. With two ARIA nominations to her name, as well as winning Song of the Year for “King Brown” at the National Indigenous Music Awards, Record of the Year and Best Video at the FBi SMAC Awards for Blak Matriarchy, BARKAA is claiming her position as “the new matriarch of Australian rap (GQ)”.
Embrace the proud and inspired energy of “PREACH” and worship at the altar of BARKAA.

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
