Debuting the project and the first single ‘Fools Can’t Tell No Lies’ just last month, today Salmon Brothers unveil the second single from the forthcoming ‘More To Love’ album. The second offering from the project, ‘Coming Up For Air,’ begins with a dreamy, swirling flute composition of another world. As if awoken from a dream, the record quickly changes direction with funky guitar licks, synth trills, and captivating vocals that exude charm and charisma from the outset. Lyrically, the single alludes to past heartbreak and “trouble healing,” yet it sonically conveys a sense of optimism with Weaver singing, “I pretend like I don’t care, but when I see you it’s like coming up for air.”

Speaking on how the record came to be, Nick Weaver’s mother, Helen Wellings shares “both Nicks were in the room together, Weaver doing a happy little dance, while Richard Belkner completed the final analogue mix. Analogue tape effects and Karl Laskowski’s beautifully toned flute produce the washy sounds that evoke the movement of water and breathing. Nick Meredith’s brilliant drums, percussion and keyboard along with Weaver’s masterful bass and guitar lend great depth and fullness to the music. When renowned guitarist Seb Bartels slid into the Salmon’s studio he worked his magic, producing the swelling guitar solo enhanced by what they laughingly referred to as his “270 pedals”. While Nick Weaver’s vocals are suggestive of Prince, The Bee Gees, The Doors and Michael Jackson, the style and sound produced are distinctively and superbly Salmon Brothers.”

The new project has already been met with the warmest reception from industry and peers alike, having been featured across curated playlists including Spotify’s New Music Friday AU & NZ, Alt Here, and Apple Music’s New Music Daily, Indie Pop, Lifted, Glow and The Sound. Alongside, the release has seen tremendous support across Double J, 2SER, Pilerats, Amnplify, Aus Music Scene, auspOp, BBM Live, Music Feeds, with Acid Stag stating “it’s simply impossible to not immerse yourself within the good times on offer within this release, whether that be through the captivating falsetto tones or the luscious instrumentation compiled, one thing is for sure – a good time is to be had when delving deep into this impressive release.”

Tragically, Nick Weaver passed away in 2021 due to a rare form of bowel cancer, leaving behind a void in the hearts of his friends and family, and peers across the broader music industry. Despite his untimely departure, Weaver’s creative spirit lives on through his varied catalogue with Deep Sea Arcade, Tambourine Girls, and his solo works ‘Won’t Let Go’ released posthumously in 2022, once again captivating audiences with his unparalleled talent and heartfelt compositions. The album was a testament to Nick’s artistic vision and unwavering dedication to his craft, serving as a precursor to the forthcoming album, ‘More To Love’.

Nick Weaver and Nick Meredith’s collaboration transcended the realms of music, blossoming into a deep friendship rooted in their shared love for creating art. From their whimsical beginnings, donning their matching salmon-coloured blazers, to crafting infectious melodies, the duo’s journey epitomises the transformative and healing power of music.

The journey to releasing ‘More To Love’ has been marked by unwavering determination and collaboration, as Nick’s friends and family rallied together to honour his vision. Spearheaded by his devoted mother, Helen Wellings, producer Richard Belkner, and close friend Simon Relf, the album has been meticulously crafted to uphold Nick’s standards of excellence. Prior to Nick’s passing, ‘More To Love’ was in the final stages of completion. With every song written and recorded, the album has preserved his artistic direction and creative essence in every note and lyric.

Salmon Brothers’ new single ‘Coming Up For Air’ is out now, with the album ‘More To Love’ due for release via Dot Dash / Remote Control Records on 16th August 2024.
