“…it’s an exciting addition to the rising alt-rap star’s repertoire of melodic pop-punk” – ROLLING STONE AUSTRALIA
Following the release of the energetic “Not There” and the nostalgia fuelled “I’m Sure You’ve Heard”, alt-rock newcomer Somber Hills has today unveiled his mini-EP “K*ll Me When I’m Happy” via Warner Music Australia. Listen HERE.
The three-track collection includes the playful new single “Joker” featuring BLESSED which hears him revealing his connection to the “Joker” playing card. “For a few years my mum was doing tarot card readings and without fail every reading I had the fool” was pulled. I thought nothing of it as I was 13 or 14 at the time. When I left home at 17 mum said to pull a card for insight on what’s to come, again the fool appears. The picture on the card reminds me of a joker or a jester. The meaning of that card still holds up. (The first steps of an ambitious journey without fear of what’s to come) I do feel like in life I come across far less serious than I am about my dreams, so referring to myself as a joker also makes sense.” says Somber.
Along with the mini-EP, Somber Hills has also announced a headline Australia and New Zealand tour for next month. Kicking off in Sydney on Thursday 15 August at The Trocadero Room, he then heads to Melbourne on Friday 16 August at Laundry Bar, before wrapping up in Auckland on Friday 30 August at Big Fan. Tickets are on sale now HERE.
“Kill Me When I’m Happy” follows the release of Somber’s 2023 project “where’s my guitar” which featured the singles “Some Say”, “Sometimes (My Brain Doesn’t Work)” featuring Between You And Me, and “Hollywood” featuring BESTIES. He also released “Pain Station” earlier in 2023 which featured the singles “Hurdles”, “YDS” and “Guilt”. To celebrate the release of the project he performed a sold-out show at Oxford Art Gallery.
With influences as broad as Paramore to Radiohead to Travis Scott, Somber Hills (also known as Lukas Martin) manages to blend every musical inspiration he’s ever had into punchy alt-rap/rock songs that make you want to move. Whether in angst or in ecstasy, the result is undeniable – his music is made to connect people, whether it’s in a pit moshing or at a house party, dancing under a haze of smoke.
With over a million streams across key DSPs so far, Somber Hills is just getting started. He’s opened for artists like A$AP Ferg, YNG Martyr, Jonny Craig, Seth Sentry, and fellow genre-agnostic artist Call Me Karizma, and has a genuine desire to connect with fans all over the world; fans who, like him, seek community through music.

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
