Hey Rebekah, Congratulations on the release of your single Little Miss! Have you always wanted to be a musician? When did you get the song writing bug?
Thank you so much! I have always wanted to be a musician and performer but it definitely has changed over the years. I started out in musical theatre and classical music from the young age of 3 years old. Dancing, singing, acting, piano, violin, cello, if you name something related to music and performing, I was doing it. I actually went to college for Musical Theatre to get my BFA before realizing that I wanted to be a songwriter full time. Fun fact, a tarot reading actually convinced me to change my major and never have I been so grateful that I listened to the universe.
I have been writing songs since I was twelve years old. Now I promise you I didn’t start off with songs about people not being able to find my clit like Little Miss. I started with stupid little love songs with lyrics that sounded like they came out of a really cliche hallmark rom com. But slowly after realizing I was gay, my music taste changed rapidly. My top artists on spotify went from pentatonix and theatre soundtracks, to nickelback and dad rock. I remember the exact day that I truly believed that I could do this for a living. It was only 2 years ago. Ever since then. I have not stopped striving for greatness and dedicating my life to my music.

How would you describe your sound? How would you like people to resonate with your music?
I would describe my sound as Lesbian Dad Rock, with the main notes being rock and punk with influences of 2000s grunge, jazz, musical theatre, and pop.
I have had a really hard time coping and processing emotions since I was a kid. I have Histrionic Personality Disorder and the only way for me to really work through my emotions is through music. I realized that if my music could help me it could definitely help other people that were dealing with the same emotions in different circumstances. The lyricism is the star of the show in this manner. I choose every word specifically to recall certain emotions and truly help work through feelings that can be hard to comprehend. So yes, I write petty lesbian break up songs, but I know that other people can relate in some way shape or form. I want people to scream my rock anthems and rage cry at my power ballads. It is my hope for people that this music can incite joy, sadness, rage, and everything else. Whatever they need to get out and feel, that’s what I want.

Which artist’s music and/or performance, past or present, inspires you today?
My main artists that I take inspiration from is Paramore, Nickelback, Avril Lavigne, Kelly Clarkson, Chandler Leighton, Renee Rapp, Olivia Rodrigo, Chappell Roan, Towa Bird, and Lauren Sanderson.

Can you tell us more about the origin and evolution of Little Miss?
Ooh girl, I’m not gonna lie this story is fucking insane. I met this girl on tinder and we hit it off almost instantly, but because I was 19 and she was 21, she didn’t know whether she wanted to actually do anything with me. We just decided to chill as friends and go to a party together. It went really great and obviously things started happening, ya know sexy wise. After the party we went back to my apartment where she then took unmarked pills out of a prescription bottle and I thought THAT’S WEIRD, but I was also living for the plot at that point in my life so she came inside anyways. We then started doing the deed and she came up from being in the weeds and there was blood all over her face. I thought I had started my period and so I apologized profusely and then she said, “No, it’s just the cocaine.” I replied, “I’M SORRY WTF DID YOU JUST SAY?” Basically, she was so high on a bunch of different drugs that she couldn’t find my clit. After that we decided on just being friends because she was also a musician and I just wanted to jam. Later I found out he matched with my best friend on tinder TWO DAYS AFTER WE STOPPED TALKING (they had swiped on her months before but she lived an hour and a half away so it didn’t show up until she was at my apartment) to which my best friend asked why she matched with them after they stopped talking to me 2 days before. She then replied with “I’m just a D1 homie hopper.” And Little Miss was born. I was so utterly pissed off I wrote the entire song in less than 10 minutes. I have not changed a single word since I wrote it. We made it more punk and screamy to fully encapsulate the rage I felt in that moment and I have never been more in love with a project.

Is there an EP on the drawing board?
Absofuckinglutely. The EP is already written and complete, I’m just waiting on funding and finding the right people to create it with.

If you could perform with any music artist, Alive or Dead, who would you choose? And why?
Paramore, hands down. Hayley Williams is the Vocalist of our generation and the songs they have written have inspired so many souls. I just KNOW the vibes and energy on that stage would be electric. It would be so much fun and even though this is my career, I chose it because it makes me happy and there is no other feeling quite like collaborating with another artist.

Do you have any long-term aspirations as a music artist?
My dream would be to play Austin City Limits and South by Southwest in my hometown of Austin, TX. Being able to come back home and be a headliner would truly be a full circle moment for me as a human being.
I also would just LOVE to go on a global tour, Traveling is one of my favorite things and being able to go to so many different places and spread music (and the lesbian agenda) that would just be crazy.

What is the best thing about performing to a live audience? What’s been the career highlight so far?
My favorite part about performing live is the reactions of the audience. Looking down at their faces and seeing first time reactions to my music is magic. The energy when an audience is fully invested in you and the music, there is nothing else that can come close to that ecstacy.
So it hasn’t happened yet, BUT I will be performing my NYC debut opening for Bri Carter on her tour later this month. I actually got the call while I was at an open mic in Nashville and I was so shocked and happy I started sobbing. I always imagined my NYC debut on a broadway stage, and I am so utterly happy that I will be making my debut as myself performing my music.

Finally, a few questions for some quick answers –
FAVOURITE:
Album – At this moment, GUTS by Olivia Rodrigo
Artist – Paramore
Movie – Pitch Perfect, Cars 2, or Monsters University
Place to visit – Nashville
Venue to play – any Basement with good vibes and crazy lighting
Food – Crab Rangoons or mashed potatoes with brown gravy
Drink – DR. PEPPER
Person in History – The poet Sappo
Tattoo – (If you don’t have one, what would you get?) If I had an unlimited budget, and a higher pain tolerance, I would want a huge piece going from my side all the way down to my hips of flowers, specifically, Sampaguita’s so I always remember my Filipino heritage, with a matching shoulder piece on the other side.
