This duo of songs let Dawson’s talent for composition shine through, balancing a modern electronic sound with a retrocore indie-alt charm. ‘More than I bargained for’ shows off Dawson’s skill at composition with instruments, as heavy drums and sweet guitar come together with rich vocals to form an ambient, emotional soundscape. It plays on themes of apathy, discontent, and repetition in a relationship. Dawson states: “‘More than I bargained for’ is a song about feelings of apathy and discontent in a relationship, like no matter what you try you always end up in the same place. It’s also about not knowing whether these feelings are a result of something changing within yourself or someone else.”

It’s b-side is the yin to its yang. ‘If I could read you, would I want to?’ is a carefully sculpted, sci-fi, electronic daze with sparkling synth, delving into arguments and how difficult it can be to speak your mind without hurting someone else.

Tune into the twists and turns of Dawson’s newest single ‘More than I bargained for’ and its B-side ‘If I could read you, would I want to?’ when they drop on August 9th.
