NEW ZEALAND INDIE FILM ‘HEAD SOUTH’Kicking off what promises to be another bold and bright creative chapter, Multi-Platinum alt-pop visionary BENEE returns with a brand new single entitled ‘Sad Boiii’, out now via Republic Records. It notably marks the first release from the New Zealand-born and Los Angeles-based singer and songwriter since 2023, and it also heralds more music to come soon. The song is released alongside the music video, directed by Nikki Milan Houston and featuring a very special guest, Cotton the lamb.
On this highly anticipated release, BENEE leaps forward by looking back, nodding to a formative musical memory in the process. The track captures the breezy energy of a New Zealand summer into its loosely strummed guitar chords and island-inspired beat. At the same time, the sun-kissed soundscape only gives her lyrics more gravity. Over the production’s buoyant bounce, she exhales, “No, I don’t want another sad boiii.” As always, her dynamic approach simply enchants.
About the song, BENEE shares, “I tried to write a summery and happy tune with a dark meaning. I’d go to local festivals as a kid, and I wanted to capture the vibe of the outdoor setting. A lot of New Zealand music has a reggae energy, which is very nostalgic for me. Lyrically, ‘Sad Boiii’ is about being in a relationship where you’re pissed off with the other person because he has a façade going on. Even though he pretends to be tough, he’s just another damaged boy who needs help. Maybe you came from that in a past relationship and thought this guy was more stable, but he ends up being a depressed dude too. I fall for so many of those men, and it’s draining. They don’t want to get therapy; they just want to stay with you. Don’t be fooled by the bad boy image!”
BENEE’s currently supporting Wallows on their Model Tour in venues across North America, which will conclude next week on 12 September at Los Angeles’ The Kia Forum. Up next, she will join Olivia Rodrigo on the Australian leg of her GUTS Tour this October. See the full list of upcoming tour dates below. Stepping into another realm as an actress for the first time, she also notably shines on screen in the New Zealand independent film, Head South. Not to mention, she co-wrote “How Sweet” for K-Pop sensation NewJeans.
2023 was a busy year for BENEE, as she dropped her critically acclaimed single ‘Green Honda’, as well as collaborated with Mallrat on ‘Do It Again’ (the Official Song for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™) and teamed up with Phoenix, Chad Hugo, and Pusha T on their track ‘All Eyes On Me’. She also joined forces with New Zealand mental health charity Youthline and leading neuroscientists on the song ‘Bagels’, which is scientifically designed to help reduce anxious feelings. Not to mention, she made her debut performance at Coachella, drawing massive crowds during both weekends of the festival.
With more music on the horizon for 2024, BENEE’s just getting started.

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
