In an already unforgettable 2024, today gold-selling Netherlands-born LA-via-Australia based Iraqi-Syrian troubadour Wafia announces her long-awaited return to Australian stages, with a run of intimate headline shows this November.

The “SAD SHIT TOUR” kicks off in Sydney on November 2, before heading to Melbourne and Brisbane. In the last two years, Wafia has taken the stage for performances including the grand opening of Adelaide’s Hindley Street Music Hall, the Melbourne Cup Carnival, Elevate Sydney, and Townsville’s Deja Vu Music Festival. But this time, she’s bringing something truly special: not only will Australian fans be treated to performances of her much-loved classics but they’ll also witness the first live performances of her new music, including her latest hits “Background,” “House Down,” “Crystal Ball,” and her most recent single “Sad Shit.”

Of her upcoming Australian return, Wafia says, “I’m so excited to be coming back home to play these new songs for the first time alongside all the classics. It’s been a long time coming and I’m so excited to be dipping my toes back in these intimate spaces.”

This new chapter for Wafia sees her embracing fresh influences and bold storytelling, exploring vulnerability and hope through deeply personal yet universally relatable storytelling – and building connections that are only going to be amplified on the live stage. She has seen support from press and tastemakers around the globe including triple j (where “Background” became the #1 Most Played track), Consequence of Sound, Billboard, Spotify EQUAL, Nova Network, Hit Network, iHeartRadio, JOY, The Music, Rage, The Luna Collective, and more.

What distinguishes Wafia within the realm of pop music is her profound understanding of the human experience, underscored by her unique identity as both Arab and queer. Her musical journey began to gain significant momentum in 2015 with a cover of Mario’s “Let Me Love You,” amassing an impressive five million SoundCloud streams. Subsequently, her track “Heartburn” caught the attention of Pharrell Williams, who featured it on his Beats1 radio show, catapulting her into the spotlight. The endorsement of cultural icons like Jaden Smith and Kylie Jenner further propelled her ascent, illustrating the organic growth of her fan base.

Wafia’s EP “Good Things,” released in 2020, garnered critical acclaim, with NPR hailing it as the “perfect pandemic soundtrack,” resonating deeply with listeners navigating tumultuous times. With nearly two million listeners worldwide, Wafia recently signed to Nettwerk Music Group and is proving that this is just the beginning.
