lightsonlover. are delivering layers of multi-hued synthesisers with expansive breezy soundscapes in their latest offering the summer jam “Heartbreak Hotel”. It’s the pure dance music that we don’t hear enough of, tinged with introspective moods and a infectious dance beat reminding us of the glorious days of dance festivals in the summer.

lightsonlover. have gone through a metamorphosis. Forming in 2018 the band put out a solid EP with “Bittersweet” and subsequent single “Home” however COVID-19 and a change in lineup and direction meant that lightsonlover. is now a solo outfit with a vision to deliver authentic and rich music that pushes the emotional boundaries.

“Heartbreak Hotel” leans on a mix of breezy synths and atmospherics. The songs opens with a gentle vibe and twinkling keys that set a dreamy whimsical tone, before building into a driving dance-pop chorus. It’s a track that glows with a polished approach that is as bright as a drop of dew.

The vocals sit nicely in the mix swaying with a sense of melancholy and quiet optimism. The earnest delivery injects warmth into the track, balancing out the more technical and mechanical production styles. “Heartbreak Hotel” delves into issues of mental health, age and anxiety. For lightsonlover. his self-awareness is a blessing and a curse as he tries to find meaning and growth from his tumultuous emotional state in a way that feels authentic to him.

With that said, the song is a soaring, hands-in-the-air drop in the way the drums kick in at just the right time as the synths swirl around the vocals, creating a vibe that feels both ethereal and grounded. Admittedly it’s not a song that’s trying to be avant-garde but it doesn’t need to be. lightsonlover. seems intent on speaking to that part of us that hides away. And with “Heartbreak Hotel” it does so. On the flipside it’s also a feel-good, ambitious anthem wrapped in a sparkling package that plays to their strengths. “Heartbreak Hotel” knows just how to keep your stay in heartbreak short by serving up a soul affirming electro dance track to make you feel like you can completely turn your life around.

lightsonlover. is a genre-fluid pop project blending elements of EDM and hyperpop into a dynamic and evolving sound. Originally formed as a 4-piece guitar band in 2018, Lightsonlover. released their debut EP titled Bittersweet; and a follow up single in 2020 titled Home. The group underwent a major transformation during the COVID-19 pandemic, emerging in 2024 as a solo act that now thrives on a sound based on authenticity and versatility, while wearing their influences on their sleeve.

Driven by the need to explore a wider range of musical influences, lightsonlover.’s sound is no longer confined to one genre. Instead, it embraces the full spectrum of pop, drawing from both electronic and experimental styles to create a unique sonic identity. Themes of mental health, self-discovery, and navigating all types of relationships are at the core of the music, offering an introspective yet relatable experience for listeners.

Despite the challenges of a hiatus and rebranding, lightsonlover. is poised to make a strong impact in the coming year, with plans to take the new sound live and connect with a wider audience.
