Australian alt-dance collective Haiku Hands (Claire Nakazawa, Beatrice Lewis and Mie Nakazawa) are excited to announce that a deluxe version of their acclaimed sophomore album, Pleasure Beast, will arrive on 22 November 2024 via Spinning Top Records. To celebrate, the eclectic trio share rumbustious new single “Kicks”, and reveal headline dates for December 2024, which will see them light up stages in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane with their invigorating and electrifying live show.

Pleasure Beast Deluxe features 5 new bonus tracks, including dance-ready single “Kicks” out today. Co-written with Julian Hamilton of The Presets and produced by Rob Amoruso (G-Flip, Baker Boy), “Kicks” is a track that you can’t help but move to. “When we were making the film clip for ‘Kicks’ our mates who were dancing kept doing filthy dirty bass faces and it made me very happy. For me that’s a sign of a successful song.” explains Beatrice Lewis. “We worked with Joel Ma, Mad Zach, Julian from The Presetsand Rob Amoruso on this one. It was a great combination of excellent mad sonic scientists. You know that feeling you get when you’re rocking new kicks. That’s what we want this song to make you feel”.

Haiku Hands will reveal the accompanying video for “Kicks”, filmed guerrilla-style with a collective of their friends at a busy Sydney shopping centre, on Tuesday 15 October. Check out a preview of the high-octane clip below.

An electro-pop-rap manifesto, Pleasure Beast, which dropped in December 2023, is fast approaching its one-year anniversary. The exuberant album was nominated for an AIR award for Best Independent Electronic/Dance Album of 2024 and was described “as smart as it is fun… iconoclastic and unskippable”. The record followed the breakout success of “Not About You” and Haiku Hands’ 2020 self-titled, AIR-Award nominated debut, which received the stamp of approval from the likes of NME, Rolling Stone, DIY, Paste and British Vogue, who described the trio’s unique sound and chaotic live show as part Scissor Sisters, Azealia Banks, Björk and Warhol.

Pleasure Beast is a sonic exploration of Haiku Hands’ minds, life experiences, energies and beast modes – sometimes there is joy, and sometimes there is mayhem. A dynamic and assertive artistic statement that embraces the sonic and visual edges of The Knife and the punk ethos of Le Tigre, Pleasure Beast is the incarnation of simple creatures with simple pleasures seeking peace in a world that wants to separate and divide. It’s the sound of umami at a rave. It’s taking to a sweaty and harmonious festival dancefloor as a public service. The political act of writing and performing in the first place. It’s the forbidden bitter fruit that dares you to be human. A grab-bag of sonic textures and lyrical bite fighting against capitalist vampires and numbing algorithmic vibes, desiring a decent society and sexy bread, and dancing the night away under a glowstick sun. And now the album is made even more indulgent, and enticing, with Pleasure Beast Deluxe dropping November 2024.

Known far and wide for their sweaty and spirited live sets, Haiku Hands have toured across Australia, Europe, the UK and US. They’ve won the hearts of festival crowds at the likes of Sydney World Pride, Wide Awake, Splendour in the Grass and 2023’s Governor’s Ball in NYC, among others. The lively trio will join San Cisco for a string of dates on their national album tour throughout October/November, before performing alongside The Presets at Melbourne’s Royal Botanic Gardens on Friday 15 November. Claire, Bea and Mie will be joined by touring members including Mataya Young and Mimi Bui to bring their wild choreography and electronic sounds to their own headline shows, on the Club Deluxe Pleasure Beast Tour. First, lighting up Sydney’s Lord Gladstone on Saturday 7 December, before igniting Miscellania in Melbourne on Friday 13 December and Brisbane’s Valley Loft on Friday 20 December. Tickets are on sale now at haikuhands.com.au.
