“True to its title, Elsy Wameyo’s debut album is all about the duelling saint and sinner inside of her. But while faith sits at the centre of ‘Saint Sinner’, the rising rapper, singer and producer meditates equally on her twofold cultural identity as a Kenyan-Australian woman.” – NME Australia

“Saint Sinner soothes, savages and soars. It’s a stylistically diverse listen that grapples with weighty ideas about spirituality, resilience, and reclamation.” – Double J

Nairobi-born singer, rapper and producer Elsy Wameyo has announced a 7-date run of national shows in celebration of her powerful debut album, Saint Sinner – out now via AWAL / Impressed Recordings.

After rounding out an electrifying international tour through Kenya and Europe, including stops at Pitchfork Music Festival in Paris and London, Elsy will kick off her Australian tour in Naarm/Melbourne at High Note on Friday 15 November. She’ll then head to Kaurna/Adelaide’s Adeloud on Saturday 16 November, Austinmer Surf Club on Dharawal Land on Friday 22 November, Eora/Sydney’s Golden Age Cinema and Bar on Saturday 23 November and Meanjin/Brisbane’s Quivr on Sunday 24 November. Elsy will then cap off the Saint Sinner tour with performances at Lutruwita/Tasmania’s The Great Escape Festival on Monday 30 December and NYE On The Hill on Gunaikurnai Land on Tuesday 31 December.

Elsy on the upcoming tour: “I’m really excited to bring this back to Australia. The album is a reflection of the new me. I’ve learnt so much and have grown immensely and I can’t wait to celebrate this chapter right where it all started.”

Saint Sinner arrived to critical acclaim back in July, receiving Feature Album on Double J, a 4-star review in NME, Album of the Week on RRR, spotlighted by The Guardian and receiving further praise from Purple Sneakers, ACCLAIM, Junkee, Rolling Stone AU + many more. The record sits as a creative touchstone in Elsy’s musical journey, brewing from a place of reclamation and self-empowerment. Through the turmoil and tumult of young adulthood, navigating the modern world as a Black woman has been a process not without its struggles. Struggles to find a sense of purpose and belonging, and of being caught between two cultures, that of Kenya and Australia. An impassioned portrait of Elsy Wameyo, Saint Sinner is replete with sounds that are urgent, poignant and never waver in their strength of voice – to showcase Elsy’s levelled-up sense of determinism and resilience on record.

The record and upcoming tour arrives amid an outstanding few years for Elsy Wameyo, who graced stages in support of Genesis Owusu on his national album tour and played to festival crowds at FallsFestival and Lost Paradise. Most recently, Elsy has wowed audiences at Golden Plains and Panama, as well as in support of ARIA-Award winning artist Sampa The Great. Previously, Elsy performed her debut run of international shows, supporting Australian hip hop icons Hilltop Hoods throughout Europe and Australian arenas.
