Behind The Gallery is excited to announce that LA based photographer CHRIS CUFFARO is returning to Australia with his GREATEST HITS : PEARL JAM | ALIVE 1991-92 exhibition kicking off in Melbourne and heading to Sydney this November. Titled PEARL JAM | ALIVE 1991-92 honoring one of the band’s best-known songs, the exhibition captures the then emerging band ahead of their global explosion.
The series showcases members Eddie Vedder, Jeff Ament, Stone Gossard, Dave Abbruzzese and Mike McCready in a collection of striking images spanning live shots through to some of the band’s early era-defining photoshoots.
Opening in Melbourne Nov 13 – 16 at 14 Langridge Street, Collingwood and Sydney Nov 19 – 23 at 17 Oxford Street, Paddington, fans of music, photography and pop culture will be able to get up close and personal with Chris and one the world’s most globally recognised bands via his stunning and iconic photos. Over the days, the exhibition program will include music, hosted conversations, workshops and more.
Chris Cuffaro says, “I cannot wait to be back in Australia. I love Australia. This will be my 12th trip since 1988’s George Michael FAITH Tour and my 5th & 6th exhibitions in Australia since 2018. This pop-up Pearl Jam exhibition is a big part of my Greatest Hits project! From the iconic photos you know, to the never seen before photos, Greatest Hits: Pearl Jam | Alive 1991-1992 celebrates those amazing moments and experiences encompassing a complete collection of my time with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame band Pearl Jam.”
Behind The Gallery’s Creative Director, Stephen Dallimore adds “We are very excited to be able to bring together this unique experience of iconic Pearl Jam photography, some never seen before, for the fans and collectors and showcase it in Melbourne and Sydney.”
Cuffaro has been shooting artists for the past 40 years and has no intention of slowing down. As a photographer, creator and director, his natural talent, versatility and tireless pursuit of artistic expression continue to grow no matter the medium.
Cuffaro will base himself in Sydney this summer and apart from spending time eating banana bread and drinking vanilla lattes is open to photographing emerging Australian artists whilst here. Get in touch if you are interested!
This latest Australian exhibition, presented by Behind The Gallery, follows his previous GREATEST HITS exhibition (Nirvana, Daniel Johns, Michael Hutchence, Iggy Pop, George Michael, Scott Weiland, Fiona Apple, Morrissey, Limp Bizkit, Korn, Eddie Van Halen); 2019 Greatest Hits: Michael Hutchence and Greatest Hits: Grunge at Blender Gallery. In 2018 he presented his sold-out Greatest Hits: George Michael at Black Eye Gallery.

Over the past 40 years, Chris’s signature work with a galaxy of A-List actors, models, athletes and musicians has helped them define their public image while establishing his reputation as one of the most respected photographers in the entertainment industry. Drawn to the excitement of music as a teenager growing up in Northern California, Chris began his career by shooting local rock shows for fun. He quickly graduated to headlining acts and, since moving to Los Angeles in the early 1980’s, has worked with a massive catalogue of performers in the music and entertainment industry.
He has shot the best of the best in the music world including groundbreaking bands Jane’s Addiction, Pearl Jam, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Nirvana, George Michael, Iggy Pop, No Doubt, Henry Rollins, Elvis Costello, Fiona Apple, Scott Weiland and Soundgarden. These images have regularly appeared in Rolling Stone, Spin, RayGun, Vibe, Musician as well as on the covers of more than 300 record albums and CDs.
Along with his significant commercial and editorial contributions as a music photographer, Chris’ portfolio also includes an equally impressive group of actors from Johnny Depp to Dustin Hoffman, sports icons from Kobe Bryant to Wayne Gretzky, and television shows from American Idol to So You Think You Can Dance. His images have been in Entertainment Weekly, US, Stuff, Maxim, Premiere, British Elle and W.
He is currently working on his Greatest Hits documentary and expanding the exhibition worldwide.

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
