one wild ride

Review by Audrey Songvilay
Canadian pop star Tate McRae dropped the music video for 2 Hands on YouTube today, and it was well worth the hype. Fans had been counting down to the moment, their eyes glued to the screen as the clock ticked down. The anticipation hit another level with rumours of a cameo from F1 star Lando Norris circulating on social media.
Spoiler: Lando’s not in it, but honestly, Tate’s got this ride fully under control.
Before the official release, Tate treated Sydney fans to an unexpected pop-up event. Taking to her Instagram stories, she teased, “Doin a lil something up in Sydney tomorrow 3pm @ the Entertainment Quarter carpark rooftop. Pull up.” And people did. There was Tate, perched on the back of a car with her dancers, giving fans a live preview of unreleased tracks.
2 Hands arrives as part of a string of big announcements from Tate, including her third album So Close To What and a massive 2025 world tour, the Miss Possessive Tour, where she’ll be joined by special guests, Zara Larson and Benee.
As for the track, 2 Hands is a little sassy, a little sultry, and packed with the kind of chaos that makes it endlessly replayable.
It kicks off with a smooth nod to Calvin Harris’s Slide. Then, in the blink of an eye, we’re thrown into the video’s high-octane visuals. Tate’s behind the wheel of a McLaren, spilling milk down her neck, and completely owning the choreography by Sean Bankhead.
Every move—from sharp spins to slick slides—is technically-precise, turning Tate and her dancers into a brilliant work of art. You can’t look away.
Let’s give credit to the marketing team too. Just seven hours after the video dropped, 2 Hands was already racking up over 600,000 views. And that cheeky little merch plug in the video? “Buy that on my website @ www.tatemcrae.com.” It’s promo done right.
The song’s catchy hooks come courtesy of Ryan Tedder, Lostboy, and Amy Allen, who perfectly captured Tate’s high-energy vibe. Even the extinguishers in the video couldn’t put out the fire of this song—it’s a standout from start to finish.

Tate’s new song ‘2 hands’ was written and produced with hitmakers Ryan Tedder (Taylor Swift, Beyoncé), Lostboy (Tiësto, Kylie Minogue), and Amy Allen (Harry Styles, Justin Bieber). Directed by Bradley & Pablo (Rosalía, Charli XCX) and choreographed by Sean Bankhead (Cardi B, Victoria Monét), the fast-paced music video follows Tate on a joyride through suburbia.
Tate shares, “’2 hands’ shows a different side of me than what people are used to. The song captures the feeling of falling in love and how sometimes just being close to someone is all you really need. A genuine connection goes beyond needing constant reassurance or fancy things, simply being together is what matters.”
