Josh Setterfield isn’t just shaking up Australia’s country music scene, he’s turning it on its head and spinning it until the lines between genres blur into oblivion. Recently he dropped his highly anticipated EP, FALL, and despite what the title might suggest, Josh isn’t descending—he’s skyrocketing.
Listen to FALL
To celebrate the EP drop, Josh announced an exclusive acoustic show in Brisbane that sold out in a lightning-fast six minutes. Fans were eager to dive into the experience, and more electrifying dates are on the horizon soon.
From the get-go, FALL immerses you in Setterfield’s world, where the raw energy of punk collides head-on with the storytelling soul of country. This fusion is exactly how he’s earned the moniker of the “Motley Crue of Country Music”—not because he’s trashing hotel rooms like it’s the ’80s, but because he and his fans are the misfits of the country scene, carving their own path with high-octane energy that can’t be ignored.
The lead single, ‘Until You’, is a testament to taking a chance on young love. Diverging from the heavier tracks on the EP , it leans into a classic pop-country vibe, driven by energetic guitars and pounding drums. It’s all about that exhilarating leap when someone decides to open up to new possibilities despite the risks. The track showcases Josh’s versatility, blending heartfelt storytelling with infectious melodies, all while maintaining that rebellious edge that has become his signature.
The irony of the EP’s title isn’t lost on him. “‘FALL’ isn’t about failing or dropping down,” he explains. “It’s about letting go, riding the wave, and understanding that sometimes you have to fall to rise again.”
The EP is a rollercoaster of emotions and sounds, seamlessly blending the rebellious spirit of his pop-punk roots with the authenticity of country music. Tracks like ‘Burning Gas’ hit you like a freight train. It’s heavy, it’s loud, and it’s unapologetically Josh. Debuting at #5 on the AIR Independent Singles chart, the song is redefining what Australian country can be.
“People weren’t ready for ‘Burning Gas’,” he laughs. “But that’s the point. I held onto it for over a year, waiting for the right moment. It’s probably the heaviest country song from an Australian artist, and I’m proud of that.”
Then there’s ‘Life Ain’t So Bad’, an upbeat, catchy reminder to appreciate the little things. Co-written with Canadian songwriter Craig Brooks, the song is a turning point for Josh. “Writing this was therapeutic,” he says. “It’s about going through the darkness and finding the light.” It’s the kind of track born from sunsets witnessed from the back of a jet ski and the serene solitude of open roads to Tamworth—moments when the world feels just right. Josh captures that elusive feeling of contentment that sneaks up on you when you least expect it.
“I was in a pretty dark place for a while,” Josh admits. “Carving out a new genre for myself and touring constantly wasn’t exactly a walk in the park. But then, there were these moments—small, almost insignificant—that made everything click. ‘Life Ain’t So Bad’ is about that. It’s about something that comes along and makes you see the world differently.
“‘What We Had (When We Had It)’ dives deep into nostalgia, transporting listeners back to simpler times—neon lights, mixtapes, video stores, and all the feels that come with looking back on the past. It’s a powerful anthem that resonates with anyone who’s ever longed for the way things used to be.”
Josh isn’t just singing about nostalgia—he lives and breathes it. Growing up in the era of coin-operated magic, his fascination with arcades isn’t a passing phase; it’s a lifelong passion that occupies his garage, which is filled wall-to-wall with vintage arcade machines and pinball. Titles like Pac-Man, Time Crisis, and Street Fighter II aren’t just games to him—they’re pieces of his personal history.

With over 8 million streams and three #1 hits on CMT Australia, Josh’s rise has been nothing short of meteoric. His previous EP, RISE, debuted at #2 on the ARIA Country Album Charts and stayed there for an impressive 22 weeks. But numbers only tell part of the story. It’s his live performances that have cemented his reputation. After electrifying stages across Canada, the UK, and the USA—including a standout show at the Cavendish Beach Music Festival—he returned home to sell-out crowds. Scenestr hailed his Brisbane performance as a “stadium-level spectacle,” and Kaff Country USA declared him “one of the most amazing entertainers.”
“I’ve always believed that music is about connection,” Josh reflects. “Whether I’m playing to ten people or ten thousand, I give it everything I’ve got. The energy, the passion—that’s what people come for.”
His journey hasn’t been without its hurdles. Transitioning from a successful pop-punk career—sharing stages with the likes of Simple Plan and The Offspring—to forging a new path in country music was a leap into the unknown. But Josh thrives on defying expectations.
“I know I don’t fit the traditional country mold, and that’s fine by me,” he says. “Music shouldn’t be about fitting into boxes. It’s about expression and honesty. I’m bringing all my influences to the table—punk, rock, country—and mixing them into something that’s authentically me.”
After his mainstage debut at CMC Rocks QLD 2024 alongside country heavyweights like Lainey Wilson, Tyler Hubbard, and Chris Young, Josh is more focused than ever on pushing boundaries.
“There’s a whole new generation of fans out there who are craving something different,” he says. “And I’m here to give it to them.”
FALL isn’t just an EP; it’s a statement—a bold declaration that country music can be raw, edgy, and unapologetically authentic. It’s about finding joy in the journey, embracing the highs and lows, and understanding that sometimes, you have to let yourself fall to truly fall to rise.

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
