Following the success of the full-band release, Emerauld presents an intimate and stripped back rendition of ‘In The First Place’, offering a deeper emotional connection to the song’s themes of self-doubt, anxiety, and the overwhelming uncertainty of early adulthood.

Originally written in the aftermath of high school graduation, ‘In The First Place’ captures the intense emotions of stepping into the unknown. The song reflects on the weight of expectations, the fear of the future, and the mental toll of constantly overanalysing every step. While the rock version channels these emotions through high-energy instrumentation and layered production, the stripped back version peels everything back, revealing the song’s deeply personal essence.

“Recording this version was a completely different experience,” Emerauld shares. “Most of the vocals, guitar, and piano takes were done in one shot to keep everything as real and honest as possible. I wanted to create something cinematic, like a song you’d hear in the background of a deeply moving film scene.”

Produced by Michael Cutayar (Stone Shed Studios), the track was carefully crafted to achieve a warm, cinematic feel. Elements such as delicate strings—performed by Lucinda Machin on cello—and a subtly textured, out-of-tune piano create a melancholic yet comforting atmosphere. Unlike the structured, high-energy rock version, this stripped-back take forgoes a click track, allowing the organic flow of emotion to shape the performance.

Drawing inspiration from artists like Phoebe Bridgers, Searows, and Delaney Bailey, the track embraces a delicate, storytelling approach, using harmonies and reverb-drenched vocals to immerse the listener in the moment. The end result is a hauntingly beautiful reinterpretation that invites the audience to sit with their emotions, reflect, and find solace in shared vulnerability.

Emerauld is a dynamic 19-year-old artist hailing from regional Adelaide, whose emotional lyrics and powerful voice have captivated audiences. Since releasing her first original track at just 14, Emerauld has been celebrated for her raw talent, earning glowing reviews and an artist spotlight from Triple J. Her 2022 release, In the Silence, landed a spot in the Unearthed High Yearbook and regular play rotation on Triple J Unearthed, cementing her as one of Australia’s emerging young talents.

In 2023, Emerauld’s talent shone brightly when her outstanding Australian Idol audition earned her a golden ticket to Sydney with unanimous praise from the judges. This milestone was followed by high-energy performances at Scouted 23, Adelaide Fringe, and IndieFest 24, where she served as “The Face” of the festival.

Transitioning seamlessly from solo artist to band frontwoman, Emerauld is leaving her mark on the Adelaide music scene, with standout appearances at Semaphore Music Festival, Beer and Cider Festival, and Feast Festival. As she works on a series of releases for 2025 with performances booked for New Found Sound, Main stage at The Gov, The Cranker and WOMAD 2024, Emerauld continues to captivate audiences with her heartfelt songwriting, electrifying performances, and undeniable passion for music.
