UK noise-blending provocateur and cult dream-punk star Freak Slug has announced her first-ever Australian shows this October, marking a long-awaited debut on Aussie soil.
Hot off the back of her breakout album I Blow Out Big Candles, earning praise from NPR, Clash, The Fader, DIY, Line of Best Fit, and a digital cover feature with Notion Magazine, Manchester’s Xenya Genovese – the wildly imaginative force behind Freak Slug – is set to bring her thrillingly off-kilter sound and signature chaos-pop energy to Australia’s east coast for a string of intimate headline shows, including a showcase at SXSW Sydney.
Audiences can catch her at The Night Cat in Melbourne on Tuesday, October 14, followed by Crowbar in Brisbane on Wednesday, October 15, and wrapping up at Metro Social in Sydney on Friday, October 17.
Tickets on sale Friday July 11 at 10:00am local via Handsome Tours
Each performance promises a surreal, emotionally charged trip through Freak Slug’s bizarre and brilliant musical mind – a must-see for fans of cult indie, femme punk, and everything in between.
In 2025, Freak Slug has been making waves across the UK, Europe, and the US with a string of standout festival and tour appearances. Kicking off with a performance at SXSW in Austin, Texas in March before returning to the UK for her Big Candles UK / EU Tour, which included a show at Sheffield’s Get Together Festival in May. Summer sees her lighting up some of the UK’s most beloved festivals, with sets confirmed at Latitude Festival, Kendal Calling, Leeds Festival, and Rock N Roll Circus. Her tour has also taken her through iconic venues such as Bowery Ballroom in New York, Lodge Room in Los Angeles, and London’s MOTH Club, solidifying her as one of the most exciting emerging names on the international live circuit.
A visual artist and self-taught sonic shapeshifter, Freak Slug’s world is one of chaotic beauty, lo-fi charm, and tongue-in-cheek punk irreverence. Described as a “chaotic birthday party of sound,” her music blends ‘90s grunge, woozy dream-pop, and bratty alt-pop into something that feels both nostalgic and entirely new.
From viral beginnings recording vocals straight into her MacBook mic, to collaborating with Jadu Heart’s Alex Headford on her debut LP, Freak Slug has carved out a lane that’s as unpredictable as it is unforgettable. Whether she’s casting love spells over slinking basslines, unpacking emotional messiness with a sly grin, or comparing exes to disappointing desserts, she does it all with unfiltered honesty and theatrical flair.
With a growing global cult following and critical acclaim already bubbling, these debut Australian shows are set to be equal parts intoxicating and untamed. Don’t miss the debut performances of one of the UK’s most captivating and unpredictable new voices.

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
