Join Naarm/ Melbourne-based queer pop artist POLLY as she bares her heart and soul in her EP ‘Daddy Issues’, releasing on Friday, July 18.

This 4-piece EP showcases the sound that has ensnared listeners in over 116 countries. Working with renowned producers Ben Oldland and Liam Quinn (Ruel, Peach PRC), she has created an intoxicating blend of nostalgic-soaked synths, decadent vocals, and hard-hitting lyricism – perfecting her luxe, digitally textured sounds.

Exploring her life, loves, and adolescence, ‘Daddy Issues’ is a deeply personal project of POLLY’s. Reflecting on how her childhood has gone on to impact every aspect of her life from her friendships to her music, this EP is the culmination of time, effort, and love: “I’ve poured everything into this EP. As an independent artist it takes so much time, energy and money to put a body of work together but it’s worth all of it… Writing these songs was like giving little me a big hug, telling her it’s going to be okay. It was cathartic and heartbreaking and releasing it is terrifying. I’m so excited to share this vulnerable piece of me with people and for them to take away from the songs whatever they need to right now.”

The first song on the EP, ‘BETTER’, starts the EP out on a longing note: this cocktail of creatively twisted autotune and twinkling digital beats coasts on the deeply ingrained urge to compare life to what it could be, making for a song that’s both danceable and bittersweet as well as showing off her music’s strong ability to play with complexities of mood.

Following that is ‘B.I.T.E ME’, which transforms heartache into a post-breakup electro pop anthem that’s both sweet-and-sour. With its caustic and pointed lyrics, pulsing drums, and refrain of ‘B.I.T.E, yeah, go bite me’, this song bites back.

‘Colours’, the third track on the EP, is a slow, mournful song with ethereal vocal layering, subtle piano, and gentle electronic melodies. It follows POLLY as she yearns for connection with someone who wasn’t good for her, and expresses all of the pain and impossible hope that comes with that.

The EP’s finale is ‘Feels Like’ – a nostalgic and melancholy club beat. Its echoey electronic pulses create an intimate mood, as do the low vocals that bloom into something higher as the chorus breaks and the song grows more vulnerable. This track is a perfect showing of how POLLY bares her heart to the world with every song.
