A Crisis in Silence
According to the National Eating Disorders Collaboration (NEDC), approximately 1 in 20 Australians are living with an eating disorder, yet stigma and shame often keep these struggles hidden. Globally, anorexia nervosa has the highest mortality rate of any mental illness, and bulimia nervosa continues to devastate lives through cycles of guilt, secrecy, and self-harm.
These disorders are increasingly showing up in younger and younger people. A report from the Journal of Adolescent Health found that 50% of teenage girls and 30% of teenage boys engage in unhealthy behaviors to control weight—including skipping meals, purging, or excessive exercise.
Rising alt-pop artist AZURE is using her debut single Sleep Through Dinner to confront one of the most personal and painful realities in her life: her battle with anorexia. With haunting vocals, stripped-back instrumentation, and unfiltered lyricism, the song serves as both a cathartic release and a lifeline to others quietly suffering.
“‘Sleep Through Dinner’ came from a really literal and painful place. There were nights where I would actually sleep through dinner just so I didn’t have to eat,” AZURE shares. “The first time I remember feeling distressed about my body, I was six years old”

The ‘Barbie’ Effect and Digital Mirrors
The impossible beauty standards set by Barbie dolls, supermodels, and social media influencers have been widely studied for their impact on body dissatisfaction. Research published in Body Image: An International Journal of Research shows that exposure to these idealized images significantly increases the risk of eating disorders, especially among adolescents and pre-teens.
Social media, particularly platforms like Instagram and TikTok, amplifies this pressure. Algorithms often reward “thinspiration” content, while filters and editing tools create an unattainable aesthetic that chips away at mental health. A 2021 Facebook internal study revealed that Instagram worsened body image issues for 1 in 3 teen girls, a statistic that sent shockwaves through the tech and health communities.
An Anthem for the Silenced
Sleep Through Dinner doesn’t just tell AZURE’s story—it gives voice to millions who feel unseen and unheard. With raw lyrics and emotional depth, the track dares to say the quiet parts out loud, becoming a rallying cry for awareness, empathy, and healing.
“I pride myself on my brutal honesty — so I need to stick to that. I’m not recovered. But I am actively trying. I’m still here. And I’m honestly just so sick of the way we, especially as women, have been taught to torture ourselves just to fit into a mold. I don’t want to live like that anymore. I had to decide that.”

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
