“We try to be the heaviest band in the world…”

That’s how Yannick Lehmann, guitarist for PALEFACE SWISS, sums up the band’s mission. But he’s quick to add that the brutality comes with a twist: experimentation. From beatdown beginnings in Swiss basements to international festival stages, the group has carved their name into the global heavy scene — and now, they’re back in Australia, ready to unleash chaos once again.

I caught up with Yannick ahead of the band’s second Australian tour. Casual, humorous, and refreshingly humble, he opened up about their origins, musical evolution, and what Aussie fans can expect this time around.

From Slipknot Shows to Swiss Stages

PALEFACE SWISS was born in a moment of mutual chaos.

“Our singer Zelli and our former drummer met at a Slipknot show,” Yannick explains. “Then they went to the first Knocked Loose show in Switzerland. They shook hands and said, ‘Let’s make heavy music.’” Soon after, Yannick joined via mutual friends, and bassist Tommy answered a Facebook post. “Super simple,” he laughs. “Just how every band seems to start these days.”

Down Under (Again)

The band made their Aussie debut last September — and it clearly left a mark.

“The energy was insane, and the people were so nice,” Yannick recalls. “This time, it’s going to be a super sick headline set — no big production because it’s all fly-in shows. Just the music, the energy, and the fun.”

There’s one big hope for this trip though: “We want to finally see a Huntsman spider! We didn’t see one last time and we were bummed.”

What Makes a PALEFACE Show?

Known for chaotic, bone-rattling live sets, PALEFACE SWISS is a must-see for heavy music fans. But it’s not just about being loud — it’s about being real.

“We try to have fun on stage, be natural, be ourselves,” Yannick says. “There’s no big stage plot, no crazy visuals… It’s just us giving everything we have, hoping the energy flows both ways.”

Although, he admits some new additions have helped: “We started using pyro at festivals this year. It’s epic. We love it. But we don’t need it.”

Vegas and the Basement: The Two Extremes

When asked about the most memorable show, Yannick doesn’t hesitate.

“Sick New World Festival in Las Vegas. We played with System of a Down, Spiritbox, Knocked Loose, Lorna Shore… every heavy band you can imagine. And we played in front of the Las Vegas skyline. Unreal.”

But the road to big festivals started humbly — with sweaty beatdown gigs in tiny Zurich basements. “Covid hit after that, and we just kept writing. That’s when our sound really evolved.”

No Labels, No Limits

One of the most exciting things about PALEFACE SWISS is their refusal to be boxed in.

“We started as a slamming beatdown band,” Yannick says. “But now we add clean vocals, thrash, heavy metal, even soft parts. You can’t put us in a drawer.”

Would they ever go softer completely? “Maybe some garage rock, maybe something like Nothing But Thieves,” he teases. “We all love chill rock stuff too.”

What’s Next for PALEFACE SWISS?

After wrapping their Australian run in mid-September, the band will take a well-earned break — and focus on writing.

“We’ll stop touring for the rest of the year and get back to the studio. Then our next European headline tour kicks off in January.”

Festival season looms in Europe next year, but nothing is locked in for Australia yet. “Nothing big planned,” Yannick says with a grin. “But we’d love to come back.”

Monopoly, Melbourne, and Mateship

Before wrapping up, we got into the real questions — like, what’s his favorite Monopoly piece?

“There’s a Swiss version, so I’d pick that!” he laughs.

Yannick also shared his love for Melbourne. “We had two off days here last tour — best off days I’ve ever had. The food, the city, the vibe — I can’t wait to be back.”

.

.

Catch Them While You Can

Whether you’re into slamming breakdowns or genre-defying heaviness, PALEFACE SWISS is a band that thrives on intensity, honesty, and connection. Their Australian headline tour promises to deliver all that — plus, if Yannick gets his wish, maybe a giant spider sighting or two.

Catch PALEFACE SWISS on tour now — and don’t forget to bring the noise.

Switzerland’s global reputation for being a peaceful and neutral country is in absolute tatters thanks to one band destroying all before them!

A lot has happened since PALEFACE SWISS’ incredibly successful, sold-out run with In Hearts Wake in 2024. Their fan base has exploded exponentially thanks to their now infamous sets at festivals such as Sick New World and the accolades are piling up for their crushing performances on sold out tours of Europe and The U.S.

Now the Swiss wrecking crew return to Australia as all conquering headliners, armed with their brand-new record, Cursed, which entered the Spotify Global Charts at #7, as well as reaching #3 in both the US and UK charts—a testament to their unstoppable rise.

Joining this already monstrous tour is notorious German Deathcore/Beatdown outfit NASTY, who have been aptly self described as “F*cked up music for a F*cked up World’’. With a fierce reputation for volatile live shows, relentless energy and brutal sound, Nasty are a force to behold.

“Nasty have established themselves as one of the breakdown greats. There is no doubting who these guys are or what they want to do; make you lose your shit in the pit. Grab some space and get ready to thrash!” – Metal Zenith
