It’s Dave here from Amnplify, and this time I sat down with the rising star Charlie Pittman. If you don’t already know him, you soon will. The UK-born, Sydney-based artist has been carving out his space with honest songwriting, indie-rock energy, and a live show that hits hard.

From football dreams to the stage

Growing up in the UK, Charlie’s first love wasn’t music, but football. A Liverpool supporter with local ties to Ipswich Town, he admits it wasn’t until his teenage years that music really struck him.

“I wanted to write songs and get on stage and connect with people. Since then, it hasn’t really stopped.”

He studied acting at drama school in England and pursued performance in multiple forms, but when COVID shut everything down, Pittman turned to TikTok. Sharing his own music online in 2020 quickly built him an audience of strangers who connected with his heartfelt lyrics. That encouragement gave him the push to release music independently — a decision that’s since set his career in motion.

By 2023, he’d moved to Australia, calling Sydney home.

The sound of Charlie Pittman

Charlie describes his music as indie rock meets indie pop, always written with the live show in mind.

“It’s very guitar-led, built for live. When I’m writing, I’m always thinking: how’s this going to feel on stage?”

His music resonates because it’s deeply personal and unflinchingly honest. Every lyric comes from lived experience, which, in turn, allows listeners to find their own reflections in his stories.

Influences range widely, from The 1975 and Radiohead to Smashing Pumpkins, while newer voices like Medium Build and Phoebe Go inspire his raw songwriting approach.

The new EP: Okay Again

Charlie’s latest release, the Okay Again EP, dropped on September 19th. It features six tracks, including the single Death Row and his personal favourite, How I Feel, recorded in Nashville with Matt Hastings and Val Hoyt (now known as In Color).

“The EP takes you on a journey of a year in my life — from one relationship, through the lows of being alone, and back into another. I wanted it to feel cohesive and intentional.”

With three singles already released and three new tracks unveiled with the EP, the project captures both heartbreak and growth, wrapped in a concept-driven structure that shows Pittman’s maturity as a writer.

Nashville to Sydney

Though Charlie is based in Australia, the EP’s DNA carries Nashville’s spirit. Writing and recording in Tennessee left a lasting impression: “It’s a really small community in the indie rock scene. Everyone’s connected, everyone’s trying to help each other out. It actually feels a lot like the Aussie scene.”

The Okay Again Tour

To celebrate the EP, Charlie is hitting the road for a four-date tour:

Melbourne – Sep 20 @ The Workers Club
Sydney – Sep 21 @ The Vanguard
Brisbane – Sep 25 @ Lefty’s
Perth – Sep 27 @ Milk Bar

He’s especially excited about Perth: “It’s rare you get to do a Perth show as a Sydney artist. I met some amazing fans there last time and I can’t wait to go back.”

Aspirations and what’s next

While Pittman has released two EPs, the thought of a full album is firmly in his sights. With around a hundred songs written, and collaborations brewing, it feels like only a matter of time.

“The dream has always been to connect with as many people as I can with my music. I’d love to tour the US and Europe. I’ve done the UK, but I’ve never played in Europe yet. That would be amazing.”

And though acting is on pause for now, Charlie won’t rule out returning to it if the right opportunity crosses paths with his music.

Authentic connections

For Pittman, the magic lies in live performance.

“Watching people’s reactions to my songs — sometimes crying, sometimes singing every word — that’s what it’s about. You can’t get that through a screen.”

His openness, both in conversation and in song, is what makes him so engaging. Whether it’s talking football (he’s a Liverpool man but also a new Fremantle Dockers fan), favourite albums (Love Is Not Dying by Jeremy Zucker), or even his tattoos (a horse inked for his mum), Charlie brings an authenticity that fans can latch onto.

Final thoughts

Charlie Pittman may be at the beginning of his journey compared to veterans who are onto their fifteenth album, but he’s already shown the hunger, craft, and sincerity needed for a long career. With Okay Again out now and the tour underway, this is the perfect moment to discover an artist destined to climb higher.

Check out the EP, catch him on tour, and keep your eyes on what comes next — because Charlie Pittman is only just getting started.
