From across the seas, Irish American duo DUG, made up of Irish songwriter Lorkin O’Reilly and California Clawhammer Banjo player Jonny Pickett, bring their raw and rowdy fresh sounds steeped in harmony alongside clever picking and fan-worthy fiddle tricks, to Australian shores for the very first time this October. And we’re stoked to share their transatlantic sounds along the East Coast next month.

Fresh off the back of releasing their much-anticipated debut album ‘Have At It’ (Claddagh Records), DUG will be performing solid hits from the album such as the lively and energetic ‘Livelong Day’. Tune in and prepare yourself for the ultimate folk, fiddle and frivolous journey across small halls and great festivals along the East Coast next month.

With roots that stretch from the Appalachians to the Atlantic, Grammy-nominated DUG blend Americana, folk, and indie soul into good times: emotionally charged, harmony-rich, and brimming with stories that linger long after last drinks.

Following breakout performances in the US and Europe, and most recently at Americana Fest in Nashville, DUG’s debut Australian tour offers fans an intimate chance to experience their high energy performance… we’re talking two unreal humans making excellent music together.

DUG have firmly established themselves as one of the most unique and relatable forces in the folk music revival, thanks in part to singles like ‘The Big Sundown’, ‘Jubilee’ (shortlisted for two Grammy nominations), “Livelong Day” and most recent title-track “Have At It!”.

“All records are exactly that — records. Snapshots of a moment in time, captured and preserved. We set out to catch the energy of our busking set in the studio — the very thing that started all of this — and listening back now, we think and hope we came pretty close. There are no click tracks here; the music moves and shifts and there are imperfections. This is music made by humans, which would have been strange to say only a year or two ago.” – DUG

For those familiar, DUG are an unapologetically modern band though their music stems from roots in musical traditions from both the great American folk troubadours while channelling the elder statesmen of Irish folk.

They’re damn funny too. DUG’s lyrics catch you off guard, eliciting an honest-to-goodness chuckle in a moment of levity. At their very best, as on their debut, there’s a bona fide warmth littered throughout their unique take on folk storytelling. Tracks like ‘Wheel of Fortune’ have an easy rapport.  It’s catching up with an old friend, all mischief and smiles.

There are allusions to darker moments there too; yearning and melancholy, to lessons learnt the hard way. Taking the heavy with the light and being able to translate it into a foot-tapping, infectious contemporary folk sound is what DUG do best. They don’t need to posture; their music is naturally playful and honest, inviting you along on their musical journey.

This is the first of many amazing musical adventures we will all share with this dynamic duo. Prepare your capes and get set to fly with DUG.

‘Have At It!’ lands on the cusp of their debut Australian tour with dates along the East Coast playing small halls and festivals.
