Paulina returns with her boldest single yet, ‘Wrong Signal’, in collaboration with world-renowned beatboxer and sonic innovator Tom Thum. ‘Wrong Signal’ marks the next evolution of the Paulina x Tom Thum creative partnership, building anticipation for their upcoming collaborative EP.

The pair started the year hot with viral momentum of their previous hit ‘Focus On Me’ before moving into production-heavy track ‘Jaded’. Paulina and Tom once again come together to push boundaries with ‘Wrong Signal’ – a confident, empowering pop-soul track that takes a stand against disrespect and celebrates self-worth. Co-produced together, the track is a playground of inventive sounds. Think subtle layers of beatboxing, everyday objects like wine glasses sampled for organic texture, and a lead bass line crafted from Paulina’s own voice. The result is a fearless, experimental soundscape.

‘Wrong Signal’ was inspired by an experience I think nearly every woman I know has had at least once – a guy who just won’t take ‘no’ for an answer. Even though it’s a serious topic, I didn’t want to let them win & write a sad song about it. I think women (& anyone for that matter) should have the right to love themselves, feel sexy & be confident, without that being a green light for some creep to disrespect you. So, this is a bit of a screw you kind of song, directly aimed at anyone who is incapable of respecting people’s boundaries xx”

At just 21, Meanjin/Brisbane-based singer, songwriter, and producer Paulina has already made a significant mark on the Australian music scene, blending emotional lyricism, immersive production, and a voice that is both ethereal and commanding. The track reflects Paulina and Tom’s fearless experimentation and artistry, giving listeners a deeper listen into their forthcoming collaborative EP. Paulina first gained recognition with her breakout single Parasite, earning her the Youth Award at the 2022 Queensland Music Awards. Since then, she has garnered support from major platforms including Spotify, Apple Music, MTV, Rolling Stone Australia, and triple j.

Tom Thum is well known for his approach to beatboxing which has seen him create the world’s first “human synthesized band” for Google, to conducting a beatbox endoscopy live at TEDx. As well as teaming up with some of the world’s finest symphony orchestras and a performance at the world’s most celebrated Classical music festival – The BBC Proms. Tom’s artistry continues to redefine what’s possible in music production and is shared with Paulina’s approach to songwriting and production.

Their first collaborative release ‘Focus on Me’, gained millions of views and expanded their global following, with Paulina gaining over 60k fans since the release. The beatbox heavy track was followed up with ‘Jaded’ showcasing the pair’s inventive sound production for the first time. This saw them land Spotify Editorial playlist spots including Pop n’ Fresh, All New Pop, Turn Up AUS, EQUAL AU/NZ and a number of  New Music Friday globally, as well as Apple Music’s Lifted and Pop Chill playlists. Paulina and Tom Thum are also recipients of the American Apparel StAArt Up Fund, releasing a line of merchandise that complements their artistic vision.

The pair will showcase their musical talent at this year’s SXSW Sydney. Having sold out all four of her headline shows and performed alongside notable artists like Jack Botts, FELIVAND, Hanni, Velvet Bloom, as well as international shows in London and Germany. SXSW Sydney will be a special occasion where audiences will be able to see Paulina debut new music with her full band on Wednesday, October 15 at The Chippo Hotel from 7:00pm – 7:30pm and Thursday October 16 at The Abercrombie Hotel from 8:00pm – 8:30pm. Drawing inspiration from contemporary icons like RAYE, Olivia Dean, and Billie Eilish, Paulina fearlessly dives into serious themes with signature boldness and flair. Supported by tastemakers including Rolling Stone, Happy, TMRW Magazine, Mixdown, and more, ‘Wrong Signal’ pays homage to the rich R&B soundscapes of the early ’90s and 2000s. Driven by hypnotic loops and propulsive drums, the track is made for head-bopping and letting loose, while delivering a message that cuts deep and lingers long after the beat fades.
