Marks the release of Dust, the second album from acclaimed pianist and post-classical composer Rose Riebl. Riebl will be playing a special show at The Church in Sydney on 28 November to celebrate. Entry via ballot here.

Dust marks Riebl’s most personal and expansive work to date; a profound meditation on loss, love, and the quiet miracle of being alive.

Of the album Rose says; When I started writing this album, my brother was still alive. As I finish it, my daughter has been born. This record traverses time and space and the tectonic plates of joy and sorrow that find us in our lifetimes.”

She continues“I remember the first time I read that every atom in your body has come from a star (or many stars) that exploded, it seemed to be one of the most poetic things I’d ever encountered: we are all stardust. The stars died so that you and I could be here today.

This album is inspired by the big, immeasurable things and their smaller, intimate counterpoints. The track ‘Falling’ was written for Katya, a young woman who threw herself from the balcony of her apartment after leaving a note that said ‘I love’. ‘Nirvana Moon’ was written as a lullaby for my brother’s 9-year-old daughter, as she stepped onto the airplane with him for the last time. ‘Unbound’ has in it drums that are the lifeblood of freedom.”

The focus track with the album release is ‘What We Talk About’, which is the sister track to ‘Over Salt Sea’ from Rose’s debut album. Rose says: “This is the bridge between this album and my debut ‘Do Not Move Stones’.  The title comes from a collection of Raymond Carver short stories ‘what we talk about, when we talk about love’.  And I was writing the song, and looking at the book and wondering, is this what it wounds like to talk about love. This is the first track where we hear some vocals, just a couple of sparse notes at the end, as a subtle introduction for the new addition of voice to this album.“
