How did the band come together in Sydney just over ten years ago? Where did it all begin?
JH & I were galavanting around with my high school band for a little while and he had the big brain idea of trying our own thing as a two piece. We tried to be way more soulful and chill at the start and it wasn’t quite right. Fortunately JH had another galaxy brain moment where he suggested I just try to sing as loud as I can, and naturally I was awesome at it and everything else just got louder as a result.

Briefly describe your journey to date.
A bunch of records, countless tours around the best country in the world, many LOLs. We were lucky enough to get some key supporters from the media and industry before COVID showed up and ruined the Aus music scene for everyone. We didn’t let that stop us though.

How would you describe your sound? Why do you think fans resonate with your music?
Guitar, drums and loud melodic vocals. That’s pretty much it. I think anyone who vibes somewhere on the spectrum between The Black Keys and Mariah Carey will likely not hate our music.

Which artist’s music and/or performance, past or present, inspires you these days?
We recently did a cover of a classic Filipino Christmas song, Ang Aking Pamasko. It’s a song that I know from my mother, who covered it with her band The New Minstrels back in the 70s. Her version still gets flogged in every shopping mall across Manila to this day come Christmas time. That’s pretty inspiring IMO.

Your latest album ‘Christmas Stinks!’ has just been released! Describe its origin and evolution.
We did a cover of Mariah’s xmas song way back in 2017 as well an original xmas song. People seemed to enjoy that, so we decided to do it properly and record 20 covers for a record that can (hopefully) rear it’s beautiful head every Christmas til we die.

Wham! ‘Last Christmas’ is the first of 20 singles in 20 days. WTF? That’s an ambitious project!
Yeah look, it was a lot of songs. It was basically all of the xmas songs we could learn in time for our studio recording session. I think that knowing a Christmas album can kind of live forever as I alluded to before, we wanted to cram as much as possible in there. We had even more ideas for covers, but some were just flat out bad.

.

.

What are the signature tracks on the album, and which are your favorites to play live?
I gotta give special shout out to arguably-bad-song Must Be Santa. It’s absolutely wild, especially if you listen to the bonkers Bob Dylan version of it (where he has straightened hair in the music video). I also personally think Feliz Navidad is objectively the best Christmas song. There, I said it.

You have a couple of “Bowlo” bashes coming up in Melbourne (Thornbury 20th December) and Sydney (Marrickville 21st December) coming up? What are you looking forward to, and what can the fans expect?
I’m looking forward to figuring out how many of these dang songs we can do live. I am hoping it’s a lot. I just personally love playing covers, so I think this show will be extra fun for me at least. We’ll obvs also play our own songs, but yeah it’s not every day we get to play Wham!

What other tours and events are on the drawing board?
I just need some sleep before committing to that tbh. We plan on making records til someone stops us, so that’ll happen. But not before I sleep for a few weeks straight.

If you could perform with any music artist, Alive or Dead, who would you choose? And why?
I’d love it if I could perform with a dead Kid Rock, just to do everyone a favour.

What is the best thing about performing to a live audience? What’s been the career highlight so far?
Performing live is everything. I don’t understand how musicians don’t enjoy it sometimes. It’s just the whole reason for the season to me. All our highlights are shows. There’s no wilder feeling than seeing people singing lyrics you wrote out loud to you at a show. It’s unfathomable.

Now for some quickfire questions to get a little personal:

What is the craziest thing you’ve ever done? Make rock music in 2025.
What is the one topic you can talk about for hours? Tier ranking cuisines.
What is the thing you like most about yourself? Almost completely hairless body.

Finally, let’s find out what your current (or all time) favourites are –
Album – Ninajirachi – I Love My Computer (AOTY)
Artist – Peggy Gou
Movie – not movie but the Fallout tv show rules
Place to visit – Philippines
Venue to play – The Forum in Naarm
Food – Coconut & pandan tofu from Hoa Hung
Drink – Liquid IV
Person in History – Anuc Atittawan
Tattoo – (If you don’t have one, what would you get?)  I’m too hairless for a tattoo (so maybe fake hair?)
