Brisbane-based alternative metal outfit The Local Romance are gearing up to release their highly anticipated debut EP, The Darkest Parts of Me, on January 9, 2026. The five-track collection showcases the band’s evolving sonic identity, blending melodic resonance with brooding heaviness across standout tracks including Are You Somewhere, Datura, In Your Eyes, Rescue Me and Still the Same.
In 2026, the band steps fully into their own vulnerability with the release of their debut EP, The Darkest Parts of Me, an exploration of inner conflict, fractured identity, and how it shapes us. The EP showcases The Local Romance at their most dynamic and unrestrained, blending alt-metal intensity with sweeping, cinematic moments.
The opening salvo from The Local Romance’s forthcoming EP, “Are You Somewhere” sets the tone with a raw yet melodic intensity that feels both immediate and expansive. From the very first guitar strike, this track charges forward with an atmospheric tension that quickly blossoms into soaring alt-metal energy, carving out a space somewhere between nostalgic alt-rock grit and modern heavy experimentation. These dynamics give the track plenty of emotional range, moving effortlessly from contemplative verses to a cathartic, hook-laden chorus.
“DATURA” is The Local Romance at their heaviest, a low-tuned, breakdown-driven alt-metal track that hits with unapologetic force. Thick, detuned guitars rumble from the outset, setting a dark, aggressive tone that carries through tightly wound verses and explosive drops.
“In Your Eyes” showcases The Local Romance’s ability to balance alt-metal heaviness with melodic depth. Thick guitars and atmospheric riffs form the backbone of the track, while dynamic shifts between softer moments and heavier sections keep the song engaging.

“Rescue Me” first released off the EP, delivers a compelling mix of alt-metal grit and emotional pull. Driving riffs and dynamic shifts give the track both weight and momentum, while the vocals balance raw intensity with a melodic edge.
“Still the Same” is a five-minute slow burn that hits hard by the end. Opening as a stripped-back ballad, the track patiently builds tension before erupting into a powerful, fully realized alt-metal climax. Each section adds weight and urgency, transforming vulnerability into catharsis through swelling guitars and driving rhythms. By the final moments, the song feels massive and earned — a bold, dynamic standout that proves The Local Romance know exactly how to build and deliver impact.
Taken as a whole, the EP captures The Local Romance at their most dynamic and self-assured. From the atmospheric pull of “Are You Somewhere” to the crushing weight of “DATURA,” the band move effortlessly between melody and menace. “In Your Eyes” and “Rescue Me” anchor the release with emotional hooks and driving intensity, while “Still the Same” delivers a slow-burn payoff that brings everything full circle.
To celebrate the release, The Local Romance will take the stage at Black Bear Lodge on February 7th, 2026, performing alongside fellow Brisbane talents Cardboard Cutouts, Garden Eyes, and Static. The lineup promises a night of powerful, energetic performances and a spotlight on the depth of the local heavy and alternative scene.
With a sound that’s as emotive as it is explosive, The Local Romance are poised to leave a permanent mark on Brisbane and beyond. Their Black Bear Lodge show marks not only the unveiling of The Darkest Parts of Me, but a bold step into the future of Australian alternative metal.
