“Jen Mize is a marvel. Together with her band The Rough N’ Tumble- she is not to be missed. A knock-out singer and a stellar songwriter- this is Jen at her peak.”- Sean Sennet, Time Of Media
DOUBLE TALK – Song Origins
Jen Mize grew up with a loose unit for a father.
‘My dad, Dan, was a bit of a known entity in Las Vegas in the early eighties. Dad was the kind of guy who would walk up to the toughest fella in the bar, and with no provocation ask him if wanted to step outside just to see who was tougher. He admittedly got his ass handed to him more than once, but that was just who he was. A cowboy (with a way with the ladies) who might of had a few screws loose’ reflects Mize. ‘How he ended up with my saint of a mom no one has ever understood, but by the time I came along he was turning out to be a pretty great dad.’ Mize continues ‘Dad wanted to prepare me for the potholes of the world. So, he warned me off guys like him.’
When talking about how Double Talk came into the world Mize says. ‘They say ‘write what you know’, and ‘You don’t have to have a good memory if you never tell a lie’…I really feel like when I’m doing that, lyrics and melodies pour out of me at a furious speed that I can barely keep up with. After writing the verse and chorus of this one, I felt it was time to open it up to the fellas in the band for a possible cowrite.
After hearing Mize’s initial draft of Double Talk, band lead guitarist and singer Jeremy Edwards wanted in. ‘Maybe it was the Stones of it all.’ says Edwards ‘Maybe it was the killer chorus melody. Maybe I wanted a chance, now as the father of a teenage lad, to lay a few things out clear and straight for my son.’
The second verse of JM & RN’T’s first single off the it upcoming second album ‘Tilt’, flips the narrative to a male perspective. A flawed male, warning his son against making the same mistakes he made and coming clean about a few, let’s admit, wayward decisions. Again, it’s the strength of the writing when Mize and Edwards combine, that brings out the gold. That includes when they’re singing together full tilt.
Upcoming Gigs – Jan 21st @ Tamworth Country Music Festival- The Press 8pm

AMNPLIFY – DB

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
