Fearless alt-pop provocateur girli returns with ‘Slap On The Wrist,’ a striking new single and music video fuelled by rage, resistance, and resolve. Confronting a culture that repeatedly allows men to escape accountability for abuse, assault, and harassment, girli turns frustration into protest. The result is a defiant musical statement that channels activism into sound and takes aim at gendered injustice head-on.
‘Slap On The Wrist’ is an in-your-face confrontation against sexual harassment and violence against women, a harrowing glimpse into the everyday fear and systemic failures woven into the reality of women’s lives. It’s more than just a horror story of real events, it’s a battle cry calling out to survivors, witnesses, and everyone in between.
Speaking about the song, girli explains: “I wrote Slap on the Wrist about the fear women live with every day in a society where male violence is the norm and the legal system does so little to listen to and protect victims. It’s about perpetrators of sexual assault getting away with a slap on the wrist while survivors have to deal with being blamed for their assailant’s actions and the fear that follows knowing that abusers most often face no repercussions. It’s for any woman who’s walked home with their keys in their fist because they know that the world won’t protect them.”
Pulling from lived experience, the razor-sharp lyricism, such as ‘I got my keys in my fist just incase he persists’ or ‘all that I want is the right to exist, all that I want is to walk with no risk’, grounds girli as one of the most brutally honest and dynamic voices in alt-pop. ‘Slap On The Wrist’ arrives at the kickstart of a pivotal year for girli, marking the dawn of a new era that strips away the gloss to reveal a grainy, grittier underlayer.

In collaboration with Cheer Up Luv, the accompanying music video powerfully amplifies the song’s message. It opens with a title card explaining the following scenes are based on real stories and real locations where women have experienced harassment and abuse. Each vignette is subtitled with the subject’s first name and age, grounding the moments in lived reality. The video closes with rolling titles revealing stark statistics on violence and harassment toward women, underscoring the scale and urgency of the issue. Featuring a diverse cast of female and trans actors, the video highlights the universality of these experiences across identities. Cheer Up Luv is the UK based platform dedicated to ending gender-based violence, discrimination and bias through education, art and storytelling, spearheaded by award-winning feminist Photographer and educator Eliza Hatch.
For so many people, ‘Slap On The Wrist’ is so much more than just a new single – it’s a soundtrack to a protest, it’s a punch in the gut to those that have wronged us, and a much-needed callout for change. This is girli at her most captivating. She turns rage into rhythm, fear into fire, and real-life injustice into something that demands to be heard. For every pre-save, girli donated a portion of the proceeds to Right to Be, supporting global efforts to end harassment in public spaces.
‘Slap On The Wrist’ arrives as part of a bold new era for girli, following her recent single “Better Undressed.” Known for her shimmering, high-concept production and fearless commentary, girli now pivots toward a more grounded, girl-next-door energy, trading gloss for grit, and polish for raw, intimate expression.
Since emerging with her breakthrough sophomore album, ‘Matriarchy’, girli has carved a space in the alternative scene for bold, boundary-pushing storytelling. Her ability to merge pop essence with underground energy has earned her a tight-knit and dedicated fanbase.
As an openly LGBTQ+ artist and advocate for social change, girli continues to intertwine her personal journey with broader cultural conversations. Her past work has touched on themes of identity, politics, mental health, and more – and this new chapter builds on that same spirit of activism, but through a softer, more human lens.

AMNPLIFY – DB

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
